SEC JC Pep RallySomething brand new is coming
to Jefferson City

As most of us are well aware by now, the University of Missouri-Columbia has transitioned from the Big 12 to the SEC (Southeastern Conference). What you might not be aware of yet is that for several of Mizzou's 2012 home football games, hotel rooms within a 50-mile radius of Columbia are completely booked. And that means Jefferson City!

Because we anticipate a number of out of state visitors, and because our town loves football, we are proud to bring you the SEC-JC Pep Rally!

On Friday, September 7th, Downtown Jefferson City will serve as the backdrop for a fantastically fun-filled sports themed event unlike any other. Starting at 5pm, come out to show your school spirit and enjoy a multitude of live street performances the night before the Mizzou SEC home opener against the Georgia Bulldogs. Rumored to be one of the best traveling teams in the SEC Conference, Georgia fans from out of town are welcome and encouraged to attend. However, this celebration is for any football fan - no matter the team! Enjoy a pep rally atmosphere with local sports celebrities, pep bands, cheer squads, and a send-off for not only the SEC teams, but also for local high school teams as well.

A TOC (Temporary Open Container) District, much like Thursday Night Live, will be in effect for this event. Show ID and you can purchase an over 21 wristband and event cup at the central carding station. Stick around after the event for Missouri River Regional Library's Cultural Concerts on the State Capitol South Lawn Steps.

For more information on the SEC-JC Pep Rally, please contact the Jefferson City Convention & Visitor Bureau office at (573)632-2820.

Inside the Walls graphic Annual Inside the Walls Festival is Back!

Get Inside the Walls of the Missouri State Penitentiary for an entire weekend of festivities & fun events!

The Jefferson City Convention & Visitors Bureau is so excited to be able to offer this unique festival experience to fans of MSP!
The Inside the Walls Festival makes it possible for visitors and participants to experience a whole weekend full of fun at the Missouri State Penitentiary. The event will kick off on Friday, September 14th at 7pm. Lafayette Street will be closed for the weekend and the cul-de-sac and street in front of the prison will become a Beer & Wine Garden with live music from beloved mid-Missouri bands. You can stay outside and listen to the music until 11pm, or you can choose to go inside to historic A-Hall and see a showing of "The Last Castle," which is set almost entirely in a prison. What better place to watch a prison movie than IN a prison? Oh, and did we mention the movie is free?!

Saturday's events kick off at 2pm with an antique car show up and down Lafayette Street and another full day of Live Music in the Beer & Wine Garden. For those of you interested in going behind the walls, an assortment of family-friendly kid's activities and sporting events will be underway in the Upper Yard. Who wants to play in the 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on the prison court? Watch yourself, though - that court is lined with barbed wire! There will be a prison-themed art competition on display, and of course, 2-Hour History tours offered all day for $12 each. Local food vendors will be providing plenty of nosh to keep you from going hungry from 4-7pm. If you don't want to miss any of the daytime activities which end at 7pm, have no fear - Ghost Tours will be offered at 8 and 9pm.

And just when you think it couldn't get any better, Sunday comes along. For $25 you can take a 2-Hour History Tour and then have lunch with your favorite MSP Guides in A-Hall. Now that's not something you see every day!

For more information on this year's Inside the Walls event, please call the Jefferson City Convention & Visitors Bureau office at (573)632-2820. There are several sponsorship spots available, and we would love to use this unique opportunity to promote your business! Contact Ryan if interested: ryan@visitjeffersoncity.com.

The Big Reveal: New CVB HeadshotsChris new headshot

Here at the CVB, we simply can't get enough of our community's fantastic attractions. It's easy to tell someone about our incredible State Capitol or our gorgeous Governor's Mansion, but it's much more effective to show them!

So a couple of months back we partnered with Anthony Jinson from Jinson Photography to come up with an exciting way to highlight some of Jefferson City's most popular destinations and some of our favorite people: ourselves!

Anthony was a blast to work with and we really think he did an incredible job. Each month, we'll reveal a new CVB staff member's headshot and this month, we are excited to show you Chris Wilson, Sports Sales Manager, surrounded by glorious natural light at the Missouri State Capitol. We hope you like our new photos and we can't wait to reveal the rest to you in the coming months!

Marianne Joint Meeting Planner Tradeshow

 Standing Out at the

Joint Meeting Planners Tradeshow

Marianne Thies, the Convention Sales Manager/Creative Guru of the CVB always knows how to make a great impression at every event she attends! Marianne goes to multiple tradeshows all over the Midwest throughout the year and she makes a point to come up with creative ways to stand out at each and every one.

Most recently, Marianne attended the Joint Meeting Planners Tradeshow at the Capitol Plaza in Jefferson City. Her clever idea this time? A hat stocked with cash! Talk about a sure way to get yourself, and more importantly, your city noticed! We are sure there is not a single person at that tradeshow who didn't stop by Marianne's booth to be a part of her promotion. They must have all wanted to talk to Marianne, and trust us, when you talk to Marianne, you learn things about Jefferson City you never knew before!

Thanks for always bringing positive, creative attention to Jefferson City, Marianne!
