 Fountain of the Centaurs
Beloved Jefferson City fountains featured in Missouri Arts Council article

The Missouri Arts Council, dedicated to broadening the appreciation and availability of the arts in the state and fostering the diversity and vitality of Missouri's communities, recently featured several Jefferson City fountains in its article, "Sculptural Fountains: Art That's Meant to Get Wet."

The article highlighted multiple fountains throughout the state of Missouri; fountains "with a pedigree stretching back to the ancient Greeks, one that incorporates sculpture as an integral part of its design."

Featured fountains include the Children's Fountain in Kansas City and the "Memorial Fountain" in Joplin, dedicated on the six-month anniversary of the deadly Joplin tornado. Two Jefferson City fountains made the list: the Fountain of the Centaurs and the Fountain of the Sciences, both located on the grounds of the Missouri Capitol. Today we can all thank the Capitol Decoration Commission for using the funds leftover after construction of the Capitol in 1917 to provide us with such beautiful, long-lasting monuments.
