MISSOURI STATE PENITENTIARY DVD REVEALS IN-DEPTH VIEW OF PRISON HISTORY
See recorded accounts of tragedy and murder from former wardens and guards
JEFFERSON CITY, MO. December 5th, 2011 - The Missouri State Penitentiary, built in 1834, operated continually for 170 years, until 2004 - longer than any other prison west of the Mississippi. Dubbed the "most historical place in the Midwest" and the "bloodiest 47 acres in America," MSP housed tens of thousands of prisoners during its tenure. Now open to the general public for history, ghost and student tours, visitors are lead through several of the prison's significant structures by guides who once worked as prison guards and wardens. Each guide brings a unique, first-hand perspective on their experiences while employed at the penitentiary.
For the first time in its history, numerous accounts of events which occurred within the walls of MSP are available on DVD. Some stories are humorous, some are historical and some are quite tragic - but all are incredibly captivating and very real. The Jefferson City Convention & Visitors Bureau, in partnership with Cabin Cabbage Productions, produced this enthralling DVD now available for purchase. Viewers will see recorded accounts of notorious prisoners and escapes, explanation of the Pennsylvania and Auburn Systems for treatment of prisoners and other tales of murder and mayhem.
The DVD has the potential to appeal to a wide range of visitors: those who have already toured the prison can re-live their experience and those who have not yet toured the prison can see a snapshot preview of what they can expect to experience at MSP. Anyone with a love of history or ties to former employees or inmates will surely enjoy this in-depth view inside the walls of the Missouri State Penitentiary.
An online preview of the DVD can be seen here.
The DVDs will be for sale at the Jefferson City Convention & Visitors Bureau office, located at 100 East High Street. Priced at $10, the DVDS are also available online at www.MissouriPenTours.com or by calling (866)998-6998. The prison's 2011 tour season has concluded, but tours will be offered again beginning in March of 2012. The schedule will be available at www.MissouriPenTours.com.
