Missouri State Track & Field Championships will remain in Jefferson City through 2018
The Jefferson City Convention & Visitors Bureau and Lincoln University submitted a joint proposal for the Missouri State Track & Field Championships. The proposal was submitted to the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) board which approved the event to remain in Jefferson City at Lincoln University's Dwight T. Reed Stadium through the 2017-2018 academic year.
The State Track & Field Championships have taken place in Jefferson City for more than 30 years. Each year the event brings thousands of participants and attendees to the community the last two weekends in May. These visitors generate an estimated economic impact of $378,000 and utilize nearly 3,000 room nights. Jefferson City hotels, restaurants and retail stores enjoy a positive fluctuation throughout these weekends. |
2011 Missouri Governor's Conference on Tourism
The 2011 Missouri Governor's Conference on Tourism was held in Jefferson City October 11th - 13th at the Capital Plaza Hotel. More than 200 individuals from across the country participated in this year's event.
Attendees included representatives from fellow Missouri CVBs, travel magazines and popular Missouri attractions. Governor Jay Nixon was one of many speakers who presented about how we can continue to market our state as a desirable tourist destination.

CVB adds two new employees
Over the past several months, the Bureau has hired two new employees who are each Jefferson City natives; Ryan Winkler as the Communications Manager and Chris Wilson as the Sports/Film Sales Manager.
Ryan Winkler, a Jefferson City High School graduate, worked in Columbia for six years after graduating from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and minors in English and Theatre. She has experience in radio promotions, event coordination and business management. Ryan recently worked as a Strategic Communications and Public Relations associate for a venture capital firm in St. Louis. She is eager to immerse herself in the Jefferson City community and make use of her skills to promote the Bureau.
Chris Wilson, a Helias High School graduate, attended Westminster College in Fulton where he played basketball for the Blue Jays and graduated with a degree in English. After college, Chris spent several years as a sales representative for Midwest Block & Brick. Most recently, Chris worked for Russellville High School as a special education teacher and basketball coach. His experience in both sales and athletics will work well to connect sports and film enthusiasts with Jefferson City.
"The Convention & Visitors Bureau is excited to add such capable employees to our team," said Steve Picker, Executive Director. "We are pleased that these two young professionals wish to grow their careers here. The skills Ryan & Chris bring to the CVB will certainly enable us to continue to enhance the experience tourists have when visiting our city."
Please give a big CVB welcome to Chris & Ryan! |
