MISSOURI STATE PENITENTIARY "SHANKS TO SHAKERS" COFFEE TABLE BOOK PROVIDES PHOTOGRAPHIC HISTORY OF PRISON LIFE

For immediate release: December 17, 2010

The Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau has the perfect gift for the person who has everything- a Shanks to Shakers: Reflections of the Missouri State Penitentiary coffee table book.

The Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau is partnering with Mark Schreiber to develop a unique volume documenting rare, historical, collectible artifacts of MSP. Shanks to Shakers, scheduled for publication in 2011, will be a pictorial record of hundreds of items associated with life behind the walls. Although it would be impossible to compile an all-inclusive volume, Shanks to Shakers will, for the first time, provide a guide for those interested in the history of MSP artifacts. The volume will be a hardback coffee table style publication in full color. Old photographs, books, postcards, prison made weapons, paintings, wood carvings and even salt and pepper shakers once sold in the prison gift shop are among the many items documented. Shanks to Shakers will make an excellent gift and will no doubt become a rare collectible.

For 42 years Mark S. Schreiber was intimately involved in the history of the MSP. During his 42 year criminal justice career he collected the stories and artifacts of the prison. Schreiber served as the last deputy warden of operations at the old MSP, retiring April 1, 2010.
