The Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau is gathering information about events taking place in Jefferson City in 2011.  These events will be listed on the Bureau's web site, www.VisitJeffersonCity.com, included in the Visitor's Guide and distributed to a variety of media outlets throughout the year.

This information is beneficial to Jefferson City hotels as well as visitors to our city.  Sarah Stroesser, communications manager, said the Bureau hopes to create a calendar that showcases events that will entice people from outside of a 50 mile radius to come to Jefferson City to visit.

"The Bureau is not only interested in events that bring overnight visitors to Jefferson City," Stroesser said, "But also community events that might encourage people to make day trips to the city.  These listings should be a benefit to both visitors and residents of our community."

Any organization interested in having its event included in the Bureau's Calendar of Events should submit the following information: name of the event, sponsoring organization, date and time, location, brief description of the event, contact name, number, web site, e-mail and admission fee.  The Jefferson City CVB retains full rights to edit any and all materials submitted; submission is not guaranteed.

For more information or to submit entries, contact Sarah Stroesser at (573) 632-2820 or sarah@visitjeffersoncity.com.  Entries may also be faxed to (573) 638-4892 or entered here on the web site.

Jefferson City  has a full stage

Jefferson City's stages will be hopping with entertainment over the next few months.  Summit Lake Winery's murder mystery shows, Capital City Players' dinner theatre and The Little Theatre's musicals have a full line up of shows.

Capital City Players perform a dinner theater production at the Shikles Center.

Summit Lake Winery started hosting murder mysteries in 2002.  John Ferrier, owner, said that he realized right away that they were a big hit.  Guests can participate in the performance if the want to.  The winery has several shows scheduled for the next couple of months, "I'll be Homicidal for Christmas" on November 18 and December 2, "Hitchcock Homicide" on January 27 and February 24, and "Hooray for Homicide" on March 31. Tickets are $35 per person, which includes wine tasting, dinner consisting of a full buffet with two entrees, sides and dessert, and the performance.  Tickets are available for purchase on Summit Lake Winery's web site, www.SummitLakeWinery.com, or at the Holts Summit location.

The Capital City Players have been providing quality entertainment in Jefferson City since 1991.  They moved to a new venue, the Shikles Center, in 2005 and put on a show every month.  The upcoming schedule includes "Great American Trailer Park Musical" in November, "Lilies of the Field" in December, "The Full Monty" in January and "Tuna Does Vegas" in February. Each show is performed at least seven times. For more information, go to www.CapitalCityPlayers.com.

The Little Theatre of Jefferson City started in 1969 and is still performing four to five shows a year.  Throughout its history, The Little Theatre has graced the stage with over 100 shows, ranging from the most well-known musicals, like "The Sound of Music," to those lesser known, like "Bat Boy." In 2011, the schedule includes "Suessical" on January 6-9 and "The Lion in Winter" on April 14-16. All shows take place the Miller Performing Arts Center. Log on to www.TLTJC.org for details.

Other theater groups in Jefferson City include Scene One and Stained Glass Theater. Information about all of these theater groups can be found on the Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau web site, www.VisitJeffersonCity.com.

Group tour video highlights Jefferson City's attractions and more

The Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau recently completed a 7 minute video that focuses on attracting group tour business.  Over 130 bus tour groups have traveled to Jefferson City this summer to tour the Missouri State Penitentiary, and we are hoping that this video, which features a variety of Jefferson City's offerings, will entice additional groups to plan a trip here.

Marianne Thies will distribute the video to tour operators so that they can show the video on other bus trips to convince people to sign up for the Jefferson City trip.  The video highlights attractions including the Highway Patrol Museum, Central Dairy, Missouri Supreme Court, Missouri State Capitol and Missouri State Penitentiary.  Several events (Living Windows and Oktoberfest) are also shown.  The video, produced by Communique, also features several of the Bureau's diplomats.

Jefferson City is "In the News"

The Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau works diligently to get the word out about all of the great things available in the community so that visitors want to come here.  Through a variety of public relations efforts, the Bureau garners media coverage from both local and regional news outlets.

Fortunately, Jefferson City is featured in the news on a fairly regular basis and we want you to see what those stories are saying about us.  A new page on the Bureau's web site, "In the News,"  lists some of our most recent media coverage.  For example, Sylvia Anderson from the St. Joseph News Press wrote an article called "Inside the Missouri State Penitentiary" that ran on Sunday, October 3.  You'll find a link to that article and several others on our web site (http://visitjeffersoncity.com/media/in-the-news/).
