Visitor's Map eases navigation of city

When visiting another city, most people want to experience the unique aspects of that city.  And many times, they need assistance in discovering those things.

In an effort to assist Jefferson City visitors in finding things to do and places to go, the Convention and Visitors Bureau produces a tear off map annually.   The Visitor's Map shows all of Jefferson City and includes hotels, restaurants and attractions.  All of the hotels and attractions are listed on the back of the map and additional business listings were sold to restaurants in town.

This is the third year the Bureau has printed this map and it has served as a great tool for visitors.  The map is handed out to walk in visitors at the Bureau's office and is also distributed to many locations around town including hotel front desks, attractions and other businesses that frequently see visitors to Jefferson City.

Visitors can call (800) 769-4183 to request a Visitor's Map; residents can stop by the Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau, 100 East High Street, for a free copy.

Public relations gets boost from local travel PR firm

The Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau has teamed up with The Beenders Walker Group (TBWG) to enhance the public releations efforts of the Bureau.  A one year contract, funded in part by the Missouri Division of Tourism Cooperative Marketing Program, started at the beginning of July 2010 and will end June 30, 2010.

Marjorie Beenders, TBWG, and Sarah Stroesser, Jefferson City CVB, discuss plans for the upcoming public relations campaign.

Throughout the year TBWG will work with the Bureau to conduct a variety of public relations activities.  TBWG will set up inbound press trips during which qualified travel writers will be invited to spend a day or two exploring Jefferson City.  They will represent Jefferson City at the Midwest Travel Media Marketplace and will meet face-to-face with approximately 30 media contacts to talk with them about Jefferson City.  TBWG will pitch story ideas and make personal visits to statewide and regional media with whom they have longstanding relationships.  The goal from these contacts and activities will be to increase media exposure for Jefferson City.   In addition, the Bureau will work the TBWG to create a minimum of four feature stories/press releases to distribute to media contacts.

TBWG has been in business since 1995, specializing in destination marketing and public relations directed to travel media.  TBWG has more than 13 years experience in performing public relations services directed to the media for travel industry related clients. They also have established working relationships with many of the media outlets from which the Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau would like to receive coverage.

Travel writer Max Grinell visits Jefferson City

The Bureau hosted Max Grinell, a travel writer from Chicago, on August 30 and 31.  Grinell rode Amtrak through Missouri and stopped in Jefferson City to see what our city has to offer.  He visited the Missouri State Capitol, Missouri State Penitentiary, Veterinary Medical Museum and the Missouri Highway Patrol Museum.  While Grinell enjoyed every one of these attractions, he especially was impressed with the Missouri State Penitentiary tour led by Bill Green.  Grinell already posted about his experience on his blog.  Check out his incredibly positive and well-written post here.  Grinell will include information about Jefferson City in future travel guide submissions and online articles.
