Greetings!!

Greetings!

This is a first -- for me and for you.

In my business law practice, I come upon information that business owners ought to know -- either to help their business prosper or to avoid a lurking legal problem.  Thus this communication tool!!

These e-mails won't be sent once a week or twice a month -- rather they will be preapared and sent when I encounter something important to share with other business owners -- an ALERT to a potential problem or RELIEF to an issue being faced.

I hope you find this useful.  Feedback is welcome of course, and if there is an issue you would like me to comment upon, just ask.  I'm only an e-mail away!

I urge each business owner to visit my website where you will find additional items of interest to business owners, includling more Alerts and Reliefs.

Thanks for your attention.

Experienced Business Lawyer Adds To Cape Legal Resources

Attorney Gordon Carpenter has established his law office in West Yarmouth.  Experienced attentive legal services to private businesses and their owners is the focus of his law practice.

Building on successful careers with major Boston and ProvidenceCape Cod. law firms and as general counsel to a nationwide company, Attorney Carpenter has chosen to augment his solo private business law practice by returning to his beloved

"It was the only logical choice.  Having spent all my childhood summers and my first jobs [at age 14] in the mid-Cape, my home in West Yarmouth had to be the focal point for an expanding Cape practice."

Mr. Carpenter added that he was stunned after he surveyed the current Cape legal resources.  "There is not a single listing in the three Cape yellow pages of a lawyer claiming to be a business attorney - not a single one!  While I'm sure there are many competent attorneys providing services to the elderly, the real estate markets, and addressing domestic relations problems, I believe Cape businesses owners want and need professional advisors knowledgeable about their problems."

Carpenter asserts that his many years of counseling small businesses and their owners will prove valuable to the Cape's business communities.  "I hope those wanting to start a business, buy a business or sell a business will know the wisdom of having an attorney who can provide the appropriate guidance."

Attorney Carpenter is a member of the Massachusetts, Barnstable County and Rhode Island Bar Associations as well as the Cape Cod and Yarmouth Chambers of Commerce.

Fuel Costs - Some Relief

Rising Fuel Costs Hurting Business

 A Little Relief

Whether your business is powering landscaping machines, a small fleet of trucks or just your business vehicle, you and everyone else is acutely aware of the cost of fuel.

The IRS is surprisingly with us on this.  As of July 1, 2008, the standard mileage rate to claim deductions jumped to 58.5 cents for every mile.  It was 50.5 cents [and will be] for the period January 1, 2008 to June 30, 2008.

In addition the standard rate for medical travel, job-related moves and charitable driving were increased effective July 1, 2008 from 19 cents to 27 cents a mile.

If gas prices continue to escalate, another bump in the rate is possible.

No other changes in these fuel/mileage/business use rules - just the standard mileage rates.

REMEMBER --

This and other Legal Alerts and Legal Reliefs are available at my website.
