New President Elected to the Board of Directors |

On May 25th, The Arc held its annual membership dinner and elected a new President to the Board of Directors, Teresa Gardner-Williams. Teresa is the Volunteer Services and Community Partnerships Coordinator for Prince George's Parks and Recreation. She has enjoyed a long and distinguished career dedicated to volunteerism and nonprofit management. We welcome her warmly! Other Board Officers elected were Michael McLaughlin, Vice President; Karl Shipps, Treasurer; and Yvette Snowden, Secretary. Freda Perry and Brian Walsh were voted in for two-year terms as new directors, and outgoing members Maureen Blasko, Martin Lampe, Melanie Townshend, and Susan Vadala were honored for their service to the Board. Executive Director Mac Ramsey recognized Arc staff celebrating anniversaries from five to twenty-five years for their service and commitment to our mission. |

Leadership Transitions at the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) | Over the past few months, a number of changes have occurred within the leadership of the DDA. These include the following: - Michael Chapman resigned as Director this winter; Stephanie Garrity served as the Interim Director for the winter and spring. Having taken a leave of absence from her position as Health Officer in Cecil County, Stephanie recently returned to that position.
- Recruitment for a new Director at DDA is currently underway. Until the position is filled, Deputy Secretary Renata Henry will oversee daily operations.
- This spring, after a long and distinguished career of service, Audrey Cassidy, Deputy Director of DDA, retired. Audrey's devotion to the DDA and her institutional memory will be missed.
- Also this spring, John Whittle, Director of the Southern Regional Office of DDA, resigned from his position. Janice Stallworth, who has worked with our region for many years, has been named Acting Director of our Regional Office. We can be confident in Janice's leadership during the upcoming months of transition.
These changes have resulted in a slowing down of initiatives underway at DDA, as well as important pending decisions. We at The Arc are committed to keeping all of you informed of current updates and developments within the DDA. |

The Results are In ... Tax Year 2010 Check Off | |

The total amount contributed to the Waiting List Equity Fund through the 2010 tax check off was $182,938. $26,147 was contributed by 1,771 folks from Prince George's County (second highest jurisdiction). Click here to see the state-wide results. This was the first year that the DD check-off was possible, as a result of passage during the 2010 session of the Maryland General Assembly. The total amount is quite strong, especially considering the current economic climate and its impact on Maryland residents. We ask all Arc members to begin thinking about strategies for the upcoming year: We can do better. Our success can have a great positive impact on those families and individuals who are eligible for funding and support through the Waiting List Equity Funds.
