Legislative Update |
With just a few days left in this year's session of the Maryland General Assembly, legislators are working on last minute details related to a variety of matters affecting people with disabilities. As of today, the Senate has passed a revised alcohol tax bill that will dedicate $5 million in FY 2012, $10 million in FY 2011 and $15 million in FY 2013 toward the developmental disabilities waiting list. This bill must now be approved by the House of Delegates. A number of other troubling issues affecting funding for developmental disabilities seem to be working toward constructive resolution with the Administration, legislators, and disability advocates working together. A full review of this year's legislative session will be forthcoming in next month's Arc Notes. |

LISS Update | |

Since July of 2010, The Arc has had over 1,600 requests for Low Intensity Support Services (LISS) in the Southern Maryland Region and has provided over $800,000 worth of supports and services to children and adults with developmental disabilities. At this time, The Arc is out of LISS funds but does expect funding to be available once again in July. For families and individuals needing assistance now, Humanim in Columbia, Maryland, and Penn-Mar in Freeland, Maryland still have funds for this fiscal year. |

Donalda Lovelace Retires |
Donalda Lovelace, CEO of Ardmore Enterprises, is retiring after a 23 year of service to the Mitchellville-based nonprofit. Donalda has been instrumental in the development of Ardmore's residential and supported employment programs. She also oversaw the recently completed addition and renovation of Ardmore's headquarters. Prior to her employment with Ardmore, Donalda served as the Deputy Executive Director of The Arc of the District of Columbia. Over the years, Donalda and Ardmore have partnered with The Arc on numerous initiatives. We certainly will miss her presence here in Prince George's County. Best wishes Donalda!
