mother with two sonsAre you on the Waiting List?

Last year at this time there were 19,433 individuals waiting for services funded via the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA.) After a year long "clean-up project" DDA now reports the list is down to 4,829 individuals. What happened?

First, some people who currently receive funding for at least one service through the Medicaid Waiver Program were taken off the list. Why? Because, by law, an individual in the Waiver Program has the right to additional services if the need for these services can be substantiated. Thus, if someone is already getting day program services and can substantiate his or her need for residential services, then the state must fund this additional service.    Click here to read more.

State House in AnnapolisDevelopmental Disabilities Day at the Legislature
Citizens with developmental disabilities, families, providers, and advocates are coming to Annapolis on the morning of February 11, 2011 to meet with legislators about critical disability issues. The gathering will include legislative and budget briefings that will  bring you up to date on a host of matters affecting our constituency. The event will be held at the Loews Annapolis Hotel. Members of The Arc or People on The Go who are interested in attending this event should contact Mary Funk at 301-925-7050, ext.232 or mfunk@thearcofpgc.org.

With a huge projected state budget deficit, your participation in contacting your delegates and senator is crucial in order to protect vital services for people with disabilities. The Arc will keep its membership up to date as issues arise. Please respond when requested. It usually only takes a few minutes and your input is vitally important. Thanks and stay tuned...

willThe Arc receives a $25,000 grant for the Future Planning Program!
Through an anonymous foundation gift, The Arc now has the funds to continue our Future Planning Program that helps families secure their loved one's future. The Arc will be able to again provide future planning workshops and work one-on-one with families to guide them through the process of creating a letter of intent and a future plan. The program will link families to trusted attorneys and financial planners who will help build a lifetime plan that ensures loved ones are well taken care of after parents or siblings are no longer here.  Contact Mary Funk at 301-925-7050, ext. 232 for more information.
