Revels Family on the golf courseArc Golf Tournament Holds Off the Rain!

Despite a wet forecast, the skies stayed dry and over 115 golfers participated in The Arc's 17th Annual Golf Tournament at Lake Presidential Golf Club on September 27th. Golf Committee Chairman John Harrison expressed his appreciation to all the golfers and sponsors for their support. This year the tournament raised a record $25,000. Special thanks go out to the following major sponsors: ALCO Pharmacy; Commercial Insurance Managers; Largo Park; The Columbia Bank; Fulton Financial Advisors; Hays Companies; Human Services Benefits Company; Jefferson Leasing;  Mullen, Sondberg, Wimbish and Stone; PEPCO, Johnny's Auto Service; Sinclair Prosser Law, and the Parker Family.  In addition to John Harrison, we would like to thank the other members of the tournament committee Mike Ahearn, Bruce Andrews and Mitzi Revels for their dedicated work on behalf of The Arc!

Alco logoPlatinum Sponsor of Arc Golf Tournament Provides Pharmacy Services to Residential Providers.
ALCO Pharmacy specializes in providing services to agencies that support people with developmental disabilities. Such a specific niche came out of a community need.  The pharmacy started out within a supermarket that had a group home for people with developmental disabilities nearby. The staff at the home began asking for their meds to be blister packed. ALCO staff quickly found the process of blister packing required much more space than was available at the store pharmacy. Realizing the potential of specializing in this service for residential providers, President and CEO Barbara Denrich opened their first headquarters in Columbia in 1997. The company has since moved to Owings Mills where its mission remains focused on the pharmacy needs of individuals living in community residences. Thank you ALCO for your generous support of this year's golf tournament.

Rosa's Law removes the R-word nationwide.
Rosa's Law, in a unanimous move, was approved by the House of Representatives. It has already passed in the Senate, so the next stop is the desk of the President. The law, which was introducuced by Senator Barbara Mikulski of Maryland, is named in honor of a Maryland girl who has Down Syndrome. The bill removes the term "mental retardation" from all federal education, health, and labor laws. The term "intellectual disability" will be used in place of the earlier term. Board Member Mike McLaughlin and his daughter Erin will be representing The Arcs of Maryland and Prince George's County at the signing at the White House on Friday!
