Arc Notes
July 2010

Mother & DaughterLow Intensity Support Services (LISS) are back!

While The Arc depleted their LISS funds in May, July 1st signals the start of a new fiscal year and that means grant funds are once again available through LISS.  Arc staff are excited and eager to begin processing requests!

From January through May 2010, 345 families in the Southern Maryland Region (Prince George's, Montgomery, Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's Counties) received over $490,000 in LISS services from The Arc. Click here for more information on LISS and to download an application.

Making a name for ourselves:
After two months of intensive work, The Arc of the United States' branding consultants at CoreBrand have delivered their initial findings and two important recommendations to The Arc's Board of Directors.  First, "do NOT change the name of The Arc."  Second, "do not use A-R-C as an acronym."  The consultants' recommendations were developed with input from more than 140 chapter leaders. The consultants believe that The Arc is in a very good position to build a strong, compelling brand identity that will distinguish us from the many other players in the disability field, let alone the entire nonprofit sector.  Better still, CoreBrand is recommending that we can succeed in building a strong brand identity without having to change our name.  If fact, they believe that the alternative course (changing our name) would be fraught with substantial difficulty and risk.   Both recommendations were unanimously approved last week by The Arc's Board of Directors. More information to come as branding decisions are made!
