2011 State Budget Released

State House in Annapolis

The Governor's proposed FY2011 budget keeps funding rates level for community service providers that support people with developmental disabilities.  The budget reductions implemented last year during the fiscal crisis will carry over into this year with no additional cuts proposed.

The good news is that transitioning youth services will be fully funded for 608 students! The budget also includes funding for 40 people on the waiting list and 50 people with emergency situations. Thank you to all the people who attended the Town Hall Meeting in December and let your needs be known!

Low Intensity Support Services (LISS) Update: Funding now more accessible!

friends togetherThe Developmental Disabilities Administration has expanded eligibility for LISS to include individuals receiving DDA funding with the exception of those receiving full residential services.

This significant change means that an individual in a day program, supported employment, or family or Individual support services is now able to apply to LISS for services such as respite or assistive technology.

Individuals or families applying for LISS must still be able to verify that they are a Maryland resident and have a disability.
Click here to read more about LISS and to access an application for services. Contact Karen Oliver at 1-877-967-5272 for more information.
Checkoff Box legislation proposed to fund the waiting list.

check markIn an attempt to raise additional revenue to fund services for people on the waiting list, proposed legislation would create an income tax "checkoff box" on individual Maryland tax returns in 2011.

The checkoff would give individual taxpayers the option to donate to the Developmental Disabilities Waiting List Equity Fund.

The bill is being introduced by Montgomery County Senator Rona Kramer.  Senate President Mike Miller is expected to make the bill one of the top priorities for senate leadership.
