Join us in giving the gift of respite to families this year!

respite house
Funds from the 2009 Holiday Appeal will go toward the expansion and renovation of The Arc's Respite Home. These renovations include adding two new bedrooms and a fully accessible bathroom. The home will get new carpeting and flooring, a new roof, a fresh coat of paint, a sprinkler system, electrical and heating upgrades, and numerous accessibility modifications. With these renovations, we will have a home that can easily provide live-in staff not just for weekends, but also for every day of the week. Look for the Holiday Appeal letter in the mail this week, or donate online now! A gift of $250 or more will assure your membership in the prestigious Arc Society 2009.
The Arc begins a new childcare partnership in College Park!

Father & Daughter
The Arc is excited to begin a partnership with the Easter Seals NARA Child Development Center on Adelphi Road in College Park! The center will offer inclusive childcare for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years and will be able to serve up to 10 children with developmental disabilities. This partnership will enable the center to have a full-time nurse. Children who are in the Infants & Toddlers Program will be able to receive their therapies at the center.  The new center is within the Francis Fuchs Early Childhood Center Transportation Boundries. For more information, please contact Mary Funk at 301-925-7050, ext. 232.
The Arc / YMCA inclusive childcare partnership in Bowie is also accepting children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. Contact Judy Tribby at 301-538-5080 or contact Mary Funk
The Arc Awarded LISS Program Grant Which Replaces Rolling Access.

Maryland State FlagThe Arc was one of five providers across the state to be awarded a Low Intensity Support Services (LISS) grant by the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA). The Arc and Maryland Community Connections will serve the Southern Maryland Region. The Arc will be partnering with The Arcs of Montgomery County and Southern Maryland in this effort. LISS  replaces the Rolling Access Program and is meant to assist individuals and their families who are not receiving any other DDA services or enrolled in any other waivers. More information on LISS will be available on The Arc website early next week. In the meantime, please call 1-877-967-5272, ext. 245 for an application and further details.
December Spotlight: "Welcome to The Arc. How can I help you?"

OsceolaListen closely to the telephone rings that resonate through The Arc's front office, and you will have a hard time picking up on any differences among them. But take a seat next to receptionist Osceola Haliburton, and you will quickly learn what sets one ring apart from the other.
"If it is a short ring, it's going to voicemail. But if it's a long ring, it's going to the operator. And I'm the operator," said Osceola Haliburton, The Arc's front desk receptionist.
