CELEBRATING MOM

Bring your favorite mom and join us on Friday, May 11th, for a Mother's Day Pamper Party.  This free event will be held from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.  and will include vendors from Vault Jeans, Mary Kay, It Works, Pampered Chef and others.  (This is a demonstration event with no selling.) Please register at the Welcome Center.

You can do also something special for Mom (and yourself) by purchasing some buddy personal training sessions! It's a great way to bond and to get in shape at the same time. One-on-one personal training and group personal training sessions are available, too. For that matter, why not purchase sessions for the entire family?  See the Welcome Center for details.

MARKETING VOLUNTEER NEEDED

Use your creative talents and computer skills to be a Marketing Assistant Volunteer at the Victory Y!  Marketing Assistants help keep our Y members informed about classes and programs by creating flyers, making program displays, and decorating bulletin boards.

We are looking for individuals with good knowledge of Microsoft Publisher who are willing to commit to at least 6 months of volunteering, 8-16 hours per month.

If you are interested in learning more about being a Marketing Assistant, please visit the Welcome Center and register to attend a volunteer orientation.

*No commitment is necessary to attend the orientation.

 MAY IS WATER SAFETY MONTH!

Water Safety Tips for Pool Owners:

  • Never leave a child unattended in a pool, spa or near the water.
  • Teach children basic water safety tips.
  • Keep children away from pool drains, pipes and other openings to avoid entrapments.
  • Have a telephone close by when you or your family is using a pool or spa.
  • If a child is missing, look for him or her in the pool or spa first.
  • Share safety instructions with family, friends and neighbors.

Practice water safety skills:

  • Learn how to swim and teach your child how to swim.
  • Learn to perform CPR on children and adults, and update those skills regularly.
  • Understand the basics of life-saving so that you can assist in a pool emergency.

Have appropriate equipment for your pool or spa:

  • Install at least a four-foot fence around the pool and spa that uses self-closing and self-latching gates.  Ask your neighbors to do the same for their pools.
  • Install and use a lockable safety cover on your spa.
  • If your house serves as a fourth side of a fence around a pool, install door alarms and always use them. For additional protection, install window guards on windows facing pools or spas.
  • Install pool and gate alarms to alert you when children go near the water.
  • Ensure any pool and spa you use has compliant drain covers, and ask your pool service provider if you do not know.
  • Maintain pool and spa covers in good working order.
  • Consider using a surface wave or underwater alarm.

Teach your child the "Safe Swimming Pledge" and it could one day save their life:

  1. I pledge to never swim alone
  2. I pledge to never play or swim near drains or suction fittings.
  3. I pledge to always dive feet first
  4. I pledge to obey the pool rules
