We'd like to take a moment to welcome our new members to the Victory YMCA family!  Whether this is your first time as a member, or you've decided to come back, we greatly appreciate you choosing the Victory Family YMCA to help you on your way to a healthier lifestyle.  We hope you have enjoyed a group exercise class or a dip in the pool, and are well on your way to a healthier you!

 REGISTER FOR THE KIDS' CONSIGNMENT SALE

The annual Kids' Consignment Sale will be on Saturday, April 14th, and now is the time to register to sell your items!

 

We sell quality children's clothing (infant - size 12), children's shoes, toys, games, books, furniture, baby equipment and maternity wear.  Consignors earn 60% and all proceeds benefit the Victory YMCA Strong Communities Campaign.

 

Volunteers may shop the preview sale!  Cash and credit cards will be accepted.  No strollers are permitted on the sales floor.  Child Watch will be  available for shoppers and volunteers.

START PLANNING FOR SUMMER CAMP FUN

It may still be winter, but February is not too early to start thinking about summer camp registration. Following are some dates to mark on your calendar.

 

Summer Camp Registration Dates:

 

York County Resident YMCA Members

March 3, 2012  8:00 a.m. - 2 p.m.

 

YMCA Members

March 12, 2012 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

 

Open Registration by appointment

March 19, 2012

 

 

In order to register you MUST present the following items:

 

  • school physical (must be within the past 24 months)
  • shot record
  • original birth certificate

 

Due to state licensing requirements, you WILL NOT be permitted to register for camp if all items are not presented.

 

Payment

A $40 non-refundable registration fee and payment for the first session is due upon registration. In order to guarantee a spot in future sessions, a $25 non-refundable, nontransferable

deposit per session, per child, is required upon registration. Payment balance is due by Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. prior to each session.

Kamp Kekoka

 

Give your son, daughter or grandchild the summer of a lifetime and register them for YMCA Camp Kekoka, the Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA's resident summer camp, serving boys and girls ages 8-15.

 

Camp Kekoka has something for everyone: Tubing, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, fishing, crabbing, archery, drama, cooking, garden, arts & crafts, cabin time, and so much more! All of this is in a safe and nurturing environment. After this adventure you will find that your camper has grown a little more independent and self-assured.

 

If you'd like to meet the director, check with the Welcome Desk staff for the camp informational session held at your branch in February or March.

WHAT'S  NEW WITH WELLNESS

Nutrition 101 
Learn the basics of good nutrition and healthy meal planning.  This 4-session class begins February 3 and is led by our registered dietitican, Gabrielle Willis. The lecture series ends with a grocery store tour! Register now. PDF

Book Club
There's nothing like a cup of coffee and a good book!  This group discusses the latest books about changing views of nutrition. Meetings are on Wednesdays from February 15-May 2. Don't forget to register! 
 
Improve Your Balance

"A Matter of Balance" is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels. Class meets on Tuesdays beginning February 21-April 10.  Register at the Welcome Center.  PDF

 

Trim Kids

This 8-week program begins March 13th and meets twice a week to introduce children and their parents to weight management skills. This is a physician referral program that requires parent involvement.  Register from 2/1 until 3/16.

FAMILY FUN IN THE GYM
We have some family fun time planned for you!  Beginning in February, bring everyone to the Victory Y on Sunday afternoons, from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m., for organized activities in the gym. You will find that pickleball, basketball, soccer and those good old-fashioned camp games will help to build some great family memories!

During this time the gym will be closed to open basketball (which is scheduled at an earlier time slot) and will be available for family free play and organized activities run by Y staff members.
