YMCA RENOVATION TO SERVE MEMBER NEEDS

As the Peninsula Metro offices move to Newport News this spring, the Victory Y is pleased to announce the upcoming renovation of our building!

This increase of space will provide more room for programs, classes, and exercise space and enable us to better serve our members.

Look for these changes:

  • Group Exercise B replaced with a room that is 50% larger
  • A room dedicated solely for cycling classes
  • New Multipurpose Room for seminars, programs and small group exercise programs
  • The current Group Exercise B room will contain fitness equipment for familes, youth, seniors and fitness beginners.
  • Increase of free weight space by 50%

NEW YOU FOR THE NEW YEAR

 salad

Make joining us for the 10-10-10 challenge one of your New Year's resolutions! The challenge is to lose 10 pounds in 10 weeks, the entry fee is only $10. Winners receive a "10-10-10" t-shirt and are entered in a drawing for a one-month free membership.  Exercise and nutrition lectures are offered, as well.

Thirty percent of the entry fee will be donated to our Strong Communities Campaign which helps individuals who want to participate in the YMCA but do not have the financial means to do so.  Our Strong Communities Campaign helps parents send their kids to camp, participate in swim lessons, participate in before and after school child care, or it can provide teens with monthly memberships.  This is a great way to become healthier and help your community at the same time!

Registration for the 10-10-10 contest is January 2-February 28 at the Welcome Center.  If you miss the initial weigh-in on January 16th and 17th you can still enter the contest at anytime, however the final weigh-in is still March 24th and 25th.  PDF

VICTORY Y WINS PLATINUM AWARDS

We at the Victory Y feel that we need to brag a little!  Not only do we have the best members in the world, but recently we were awarded three coveted Platinum awards:

  • Member Services Department for 2010
  • Health and Wellness for 2009 (still waiting to hear about 2010!)
  • Aquatics for 2009 and 2010

The Platinum award is an Association award for excellence that includes a 5-star rating system to measure all of our branches for cleanliness, administrative and systems management, staffing and overall program quality.
