| SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY | | |
In the past two newsletters you've learned about two of our three areas of focus: Youth Development and Healthy Living. This month we'd like to tell you about the third area of focus, SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.
The Y has been listening and responding to our communities' most critical social needs for 160 years. Simply put, we think it is important to give back and to support our neighbors. You've probably heard about our Bright Beginnings program that gives at-risk children greater self-esteem and confidence by providing school clothes, shoes, coats and supplies. Bright Beginnings is our most visible response to social need, but every Y program addresses societal issues in some way. For instance, sports programs teach children to cooperate, to work in a team, to be aware of how their actions affect others, and help to fight the largest growing national epidemic for children, obesity.
Through the Y, volunteers, donors, leaders, and partners empower people to be healthy, confident, connected and secure. |
| EXTENDED CHILD WATCH HOURS | | |
You spoke and we listened!
The Victory Family YMCA is pleased to offer extended Child Watch hours! The new hours are from Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Additional group exercise classes will be held Monday through Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. See the group exercise schedule for classes.
This trial child watch schedule will run until Dec. 31.

| FIGHT THOSE HOLIDAY POUNDS! | | |
Help fight those extra holiday pounds! Exercise at the Victory Family YMCA twelve times from December 1 through December 23rd for at least half an hour each visit and you will qualify to win great prizes, including a free month of membership, a free personal training session and more! Pick up your "Twelve Days of Fitness" card and register at the Welcome Center. PDF
And after the holidays you don't have to feel guilty about those second helpings if you plan on joining us for the next 10-10-10 challenge! The challenge is to lose 10 pounds in 10 weeks, the entry fee is only $10. Winners receive a "10-10-10" T-shirt and are entered in a drawing for a one-month free membership. Exercise and nutrition lectures will be offered, as well. PDF
Thirty percent of the entry fee will be donated to our Strong Communities Campaign which helps individuals who want to participate in the YMCA but do not have the financial means to do so. Our Strong Communities Campaign helps parents send their kids to camp, participate in swim lessons, participate in before and after school child care, or it can provide teens with monthly memberships. This is a great way to become healthier and help your community at the same time!
Registration for the 10-10-10 contest is January 2, 2011 through February 28, 2010 at the Welcome Center. If you miss the initial weigh-in on January 16th and 17th you can still enter the contest at anytime, however the final weigh-in is still March 24th and 25th. PDF
