FOR HEALTHY LIVING

basketball and kidsLast month we introduced you to the first of our our three areas of focus: For Youth Development. This month we'd like to share about our second area of focus: For Healthy Living.

Behind "For Healthy Living" is the fact that across the nation and right here in Virginia, the Y is a leading voice on health and well-being. With a mission centered on balance, the Y brings families closer together, encourages good health and fosters connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. As a result, millions of youth, adults and families receive the support, guidance and resources needed to achieve greater health and well-being for their spirit, mind and body

SHARE THANKSGIVING BLESSINGS WITH OTHERS

Family Volunteer Day is Saturday, November 20 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Victory Family YMCA.

One great way to serve your community while teaching your children about helping others is to volunteer at our Family Volunteer Day.  You can help by decorating boxes and then filling them with food items that we have collected throughout October.  The boxes will be delivered to local families who will appreciate a healthy dinner to celebrate Thanksgiving.

We are currently accepting canned goods and non-perishable items that are needed to fill the boxes including canned vegetables, fruit, beans, cranberry sauce, gravy mix, boxed stuffing, rice or mashed potatoes. Food gift certificates are also a welcomed item!

Please bring your family and friends to help out with this fun event.

For more information contact Donna Blake, Community Development Director, at (757) 867-3300 x 212 or at Donna.Blake@peninsulaymca.org
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Come one and come all!  The YMCA utilizes talented and passionate individuals in all of its core program areas.  Ask a Welcome Center Staff Member for a volunteer application.

The following opportunities are available today:

Welcome Center Greeter - Be part of our Member Services team by welcoming people and connecting new members to programs and services at the YMCA.  Be our "barista" and make coffee for members in the morning.

Administrative Support - The mission of the YMCA comes with a lot of paperwork.   If organization and data entry are your strengths, we are happy to connect you with our business office.

Be a Hero- Where the hugs are free and story time is endless, our Child Watch area is the place to be for inspiring and energizing our youngest members.

DO YOU NEED A HAPPY HIP?

Could you be a candidate for hip replacement surgery?

Sentara Hospital will host a free information seminar with an orthopedic surgeon discussing the Jiffy Hip procedure on Wednesday, November 17th, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the Victory YMCA.

Register online at sentera.com/ortho or call 1-800-SENTARA if you are interested in attending this event.

THANKFUL FOR OUR MEMBERS

As the Holiday Season quickly approaches, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and dedication to the Victory Family YMCA.  We appreciate your invaluable input as we continually strive to improve our YMCA for all.  Our branch was built in 2002 and officially opened its doors in January 2003.  We are nearing our 8th anniversary.

As you might imagine, it is a challenge to maintain a facility of this size.  Imagine inviting 2,000 close friends to visit your home on a daily basis!  I'd like to also take this opportunity to commend our facility services team.  They work tirelessly around the clock to ensure you have a safe, clean and inviting facility.  But, we sometimes miss a spot!  We thank you for bringing these moments to our attention so that we have the opportunity to fix it.  It is all of our jobs to keep our facility and grounds safe and clean.  We can only get better!  Again, thank you for your continued patronage and for being a valued member of our YMCA family.

Respectfully,

Kim Wood

Sr. Operations Director
