Love and Logic Parenting Series As we all know, parenthood doesn't exactly come with an instruction manual, so the Victory YMCA is offering a 6-week parenting series titled "Practical Tips for Raising Responsible Kids."
Experienced facilitator, Lorraine Pettijohn, guides you through this "love and logic" parenting series. Learn to have less stress and have more fun while raising responsible children.
This six-week course is offered from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, and again beginning on Thursday, April 15. (Class is not held April 8, during spring break.)
A $10 fee is due upon registration and a $10 book fee is payable to the instructor on the first day of class. Child Watch is available to all participants. Non-member participants will receive a facility pass from the Welcome Center for class days/times only.

| Meeting the Needs of Special Needs
The Victory YMCA wishes to develop programs specifically designed for children who have special needs such as autism or cognitive disabilities.
We are seeking input from members and those in the community concerning how the YMCA can best serve these families through programs such as sports, swimming, Kids Night Out, and programs that foster social interaction, health and well-being.
The town hall meeting is Wednesday, March 31, at
6:00 p.m. at the Victory YMCA.
Please Rsvp to Joel Dusoe, Sr. Program Director, by Monday, March 29th at (757) 867-3300 x 227 or joel.dusoe@peninsulaymca.org

Operation Weight Loss: Making Fitness a Lifestyle

Meet Lindsey Breeden, military wife, mother of three, and a fitness success story here at our YMCA!
Lindsey's story begins back in January 2009 when she decided to participate in the Victory YMCA's 10-10-10 weight loss challenge while her husband was deployed to Korea.
She began her fitness journey on the elliptical machines and eventually ran her first 5K race the following April. Since then Lindsey has participated in many races. Not only has she kept the weight off, but she and her family have found lasting friendships at the Y.

Teaching Philanthropy to the Next Generation
A fun way for children to learn about giving and philanthropy is to listen to what others know about it, and then teach what it means to someone else.
Each month we'll feature a new quote for you to discuss with your children. The next time you bring them to the Y, they can talk with any of our department directors about the meaning of the quote for the month. All participants receive a small prize for their efforts.
The quote for February is:
"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."
~ Winston Churchill |
Afternoon Yoga: A Great Way to Get Fit
Our members have asked for more afternoon classes, so be sure to check out the new yoga class offered Wednesdays at 3 p.m. in Studio A.
Yoga instructor Judy Layne-Wood has studied yoga for over 10 years and is certified in LesMills Body Balance/Body Flow, YogaFit, Hatha Yoga, Taksha University School of Intergrative Medicine Vinyasa Yoga Therapy for Various Chronic Ailments, and Yoga Sutras of the Patanjaili & Its Implications on Meditation.
This is an excellent opportunity for beginners and those more experienced in yoga to learn more about this discipline!
