Beginning on Saturday, October 3, our YMCA will open its doors one hour earlier, at 7:00 a.m. instead of 8:00 a.m. This will enable our lap swimmers to use the entire pool before swim lessons begin! Of course the Wellness Center, raquetball courts and gym will be open, as well. Child and Youth Watch opening times will remain at 8:00 a.m.

Taking Care of our Environment
Did you know that if every American household recycled just one out of every ten plastic water bottles they
used, we'd keep 200 million pounds of the plastic out of landfills every
year?
The staff here at the YMCA see many plastic bottles being thrown in the trash everyday. Currently we are researching the possibility of recycling, but in the meantime the YMCA would like to encourage everyone to bring re-usable water containers for their workouts.
Let's help York County go green!

Back-To-School With the Help of Bright Beginnings

This August, the Victory
Family YMCA Bright Beginnings Program served more than 125 children by
providing backpacks full of school supplies and back-to-school clothing to help
each child start off the school year.
These youth were supported through generous
donations from Waters Edge Church, Grafton Kiwanis Club, York County
Wal Mart, ADCO, Mary Immaculate Hospital,
Kirkwood
Presbyterian Church and YorkMinster Presbyterian Church. Member donations raised from the YMCA Strong
Community Campaign also aided this program in providing for our community's
youth.
Focusing on service to youth and community
outreach, several groups sent volunteers to
assist with school shopping. Participating groups included the Grafton Kiwanis Club, Waters Edge Church, Langley Air Force Base, CNU Presidents Club, Kohl's
Department Store and YMCA members. Each
student was paired up with an adult volunteer to assist them in choosing
appropriate back-to-school clothing. An allotment of $125 was used by each student to pay for
clothing that would last through the majority of the school year.
The Bright Beginnings program
served families in both York County and Poquoson. For information about next years program please contact Donna Blake, Community Development Director, at (757) 867-3300 x 212 or Donna.Blake@peninsulaymca.org
