Help A Child Have a Bright Beginning This School Year
Bright Beginnings is a YMCA collaboration that provides new clothes and school supplies to 125 underprivileged children in our community. The goal of this program is to help children have a great start in school by giving them the confidence and the tools they need to learn.
Your donation can help
sponsor a child to purchase new school clothes and a backpack. Any amount is
appreciated. $150 donation will sponsor a child-complete experience PDF This program embodies our mission statement by building strong kids (self esteem with new supplies and clothing), strong families (easing a financial burden) and strong communities (providing opportunity for people to volunteer their time for the children as well as giving the children a sense of belonging to a community that cares about them).
Volunteers are needed to sponsor a child or to help a child shop for supplies. For more information, please contact Donna Blake, Community Development Director, at (757) 867-3300 x 212 or Donna.Blake@peninsulaymca.org
Shopping Dates are Aug. 25, 2009 & Aug. 27, 2009 from 8:00am to 11:00am at the York County Walmart.

Keeping Informed with Twitter Alerts
We are now using Twitter to get urgent messages out to our members quickly. When you choose to "Follow Us" you'll receive YMCA alerts as a text message and/or email to your phone or computer - ultimately saving you time, effort and gasoline. Imagine that your child plays YMCA soccer and has a game this afternoon. The Program Director discovers the soccer field is flooded and it is necessary to postpone this afternoon's game. The YMCA will "tweet" a message that shows up on their branch web page AND is immediately sent to your phone and/or computer as a text message or email. So now you know that you should not drive to the game today. This Twitter account will only be used to generate urgent messages about delays, closings and changes in programming. Click on the link below to join us now - it's FREE and requires no personal information except your name and email address or phone number.
