Countdown Candles Are Here!!!!!

During the Do What HS Retreat one of the youth asked "When are the Countdown Candles starting at church?"  After lots of laughter, I shared, "The advent candles will begin Sun., Nov. 27th."  As I entered the sanctuary this Sunday, I laughed as I looked at the candles... and thought Countdown Candles is actually acurate and catchy!  Love serving with youth!!  April

10 Ways to Keep Christ in Christmas
my favorite ways...

10. Listen to Christian Christmas Music on KLove 103.3 or Spirit FM 91.9
Download 3 free songs on KLOVE before December 11th.

9. Read an Advent Devotion.  My college roommate creates one each year through her ministry in Charlotte, NC.  Join the Open Group on Facebook.

8. Watch Christmas Movies like Charlie's Brown Christmas:
Charlie Brown Christmas
7. Enjoy Family Traditions by putting a little Jesus in it!
With the advent countdown, add Scripture or if you have doors to open each day, add a figure from the nativity and have the family build the nativity scene with the baby Jesus being found on Dec. 25th

6. Give to others in Jesus' name.
This Sunday, the youth will shop for two adopted families.  We will pray for the gifts and seek that God's love will wrap around the two families as we can't know who they are this year.

5. Step outside of your box... attend one of the various Christmas activities this year and see how God is revealed at a Christmas party, concert or shopping adventure.  If you can't find where God is, bring him up in your conversations.

4. Happy Birthday Jesus Party.
Make a Birthday cake for Jesus and enjoy lunch with a special treat focused on your special guest at Christmas.

3. Don't Do It All
Pray how God would use you at Christmas to be a light to the world with your family, church family, friends & strangers.

2. LAUGH and be JOYFUL.  God created us to live with him in Joy; If this is through the countdown candles (see opening story) or through spending time with a old-time friend.
1. Worship the New Born King.
Enjoy Christmas Eve Services at 5:00 or 7:00 on Sat., Dec. 24th at Tinkling Spring and the Christmas Lesson and Carols service on Sun., Dec. 25th at 10am.
