Greetings!
June seems to be such a busy month. I can't believe it is already half over. I hope you have found the time to rediscover your backyard and patio (between raindrops) after the long winter. My yard has needed a little work. Several projects, to get it in shape for my family's summer enjoyment, are well underway. If you need any help or inspiration on starting or finishing your garden or landscaping projects you can turn to the wonderful staff at Otten Bros. For The Birds - Tip #7 Adding shrubs to your property is a great way to attract more birds. Shrubs make superb additions to your existing gardens, since they do so many good things for the birds as well as enhancing its look. Planting shrubs in your perennial & annual gardens will give more structure, extend your color palette and add texture. For example, shrubs can produce food such as berries during different times of the year, their flowers can offer nectar, their structure can offer shelter from the weather and protection from predators and they can be good places to build a nest.
Look for any type of evergreen, azaleas, chokeberries, lilacs, serviceberries, viburnums, weigelas and many, many other varieties of shrubs that are perfect additions to any garden to attact more birds. Stop and visit with our staff to see what shrubs would work best in your yard! |

As Seen on TV
Did you see us on Kare11 this past Saturday? 4 gorgeous pots planted by our ladies in the annual department were showcased, including these fab pots filled with fresh herbs and yummy salad fixings. The pots were planted as a complement to a recipe from The Country Cake Cupboard & Café (just across the street from Ottens) that was also showcased on Kare11 on Saturday. April, the owner, had a wonderful flourless organic chocolate cake and a refreshing summer salad (that you can serve hot or cold) made with fresh veggies and an easy herb vinaigrette. All the herbs used by April in her recipe are in the pots we planted. April was so kind as to share the recipes with me, I thought I would pass them onto you.
