Fun New Products for 2009
Seed Sprouter ImageDeliciously New
Yikes!  Have you seen the price of some of the sprouts and greens in the grocery or health food stores, lately?

With the trend towards eating healthy, growing your own food, and the cooking shows on the Food Network - this is one of the coolest new items I have seen in awhile.  It's a seed sprouter

Grow your own sprouts or micro greens (ready to eat in 2-7 days) at a fraction of the price you would pay in a store.  Susan, a garden center employee, has already tried the Mung Bean Sprouts and declared them delicious! She also thinks that the beet and amaranth greens look "super tasty". We have alfalfa, lentil, onion & broccoli sprouts (just to name a few more).

You can add a healthy crunch to your diet while creating delicious recipes for salads, sandwiches, curries, and stir-fries with your homegrown sprouts and greens!  Move over Emeril- bam!

CowPots
Made by American Farmers
You've probably seen them on the "Dirty Jobs" TV series on Discovery Channel.  Now, they are in our store - CowPots.

CowPots are made from 100% composted cow manure; an idea cooked up by 2 dairy farmers.  The pots allow for unrestricted root growth, creating a stronger, healthier plant.  CowPots are earth-friendly pots that you can 'plant'.  Besides all the good stuff they do for your plants and the environment...they are perfectly odor-free!

Check out this 5 minute clip of Dirty Jobs and Mike Rowe's visit to the inventor's dairy farm.
Supermen of Landscaping
crane and arborvitaeHurry!  Time is running short.  Call our Landscape Department and set up an appointment with one of our talented designers before the spring rush hits.   Get your landscape projects on the fast track to be installed before that graduation party or wedding.

Our landscape design team & professional installation crews can do whatever it takes to complete your landscape job efficiently and beautifully.  I would call them Supermen - able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.  Well...okay maybe they aren't stronger than a locomotive -but they have lifted 12ft -2000 lbs evergreens over a house to finish a hedge in a customer's backyard.

No job is too small or too big. We can remodel an existing landscape or start from scratch on your new home.  From a small perennial garden or front foundation planting to a fire pit or patio, Otten Bros. Landscape Department can help you live the outdoor life you imagine.

Cherry
Congratulations to Chris G. on winning a $50 Otten Bros. gift card for correctly answering last month's trivia question.  What supposedly was President Thomas Jefferson's favorite vegetable?  Answer: English or garden pea.

So, I am still on the presidential kick.  Happy 277th Birthday on February 22nd to our 1st president, George Washington.  We have all heard the tale of young George chopping down the cherry tree and confessing to his crime.  Which brings me to my question; on average, how many cherries does a tart cherry tree produce in a year? (Just think of all the cherries his father wasn't able to harvest.)

Email your answer to email@ottenbros.com.  This month's winner will receive a $50 Otten Bros. gift card.
Just a friendly reminder, sudden snowstorms and cold snaps make it important to keep feeding our fine feathered friends until their natural food sources are available once again.

Let Otten Bros. help you keep feeding the birds, for a lot less money.  Stop into the garden center and pick up our Backyard Birding Flyer.  It's full of great discounts and free offers from now until April.

Hope to see you soon,
