A.H.A.V.A.
Greetings!
GailaI hope your Chanuka was great!

First day of vacation was spent at a professional ETAI conference in Be'ersheva where our new book, Reading Rocks! was snapped up by eager buyers. The rest of vacation time was spent preparing for our return to classes.

Hoping your vacation was relaxing yet invigorating!

Ask Gaila

Dear Gaila,

It's very hard for me to get my child to do his homework. This always brings on a lot of last minute tension before English class. How important is it really to do homework?

-Tired of Nagging

Dear Tired of Nagging,

In one word: Very!

Without his homework done, your child is not prepared for the lesson. This means that he is behind the rest of his classmates and will have a difficult time during class. This in turn makes his next homework an even harder task, thus entering a vicious cycle. Also a child who has not prepared his homework is usually anxious about coming to class. The student with homework done just bounces happily into the classroom!

When some or even one of the children in a class do not have their homework prepared, the teacher has to spend precious class time reviewing and preparing the material.

Good Luck!

Unbelievable Prizes from A.H.A.V.A.
You've got to read this to believe it...

Every summer we have our "Reading Logs": Every child who reads 10 books over the summer is eligible for a prize. Every year our prizes are different and varied: we've had stuffed animals, board games and all sorts of art supplies. However, this year there is a new prize which has proved to be a widespread favourite: toothpaste and toothbrushes!

Yes, you have read that correctly. We received a gemerous donation of many items including miniature toothpaste tubes with toothbrushes, and small sized toothpastes. The children adore them! They have chosen them over finger puppets, magazine issues and other prizes.

Reading Logs for the summer can be picked up at the Academic Fair at the end of the year. Those with complete reading logs can ask their English teachers for their prizes.

To help these children maintain and improve their English  over the summer you can donate prizes by contacting us via email: ahava.org@gmail.com email or donate by clicking here. ***For Israeli donations via credit card we have now a NEW payment agreement- click here for an easy and quick way to donate!***

To Whom are you giving Hanukkah Gelt to this year?

There are some A.H.A.V.A. students who are in need! In order to continue their studies they need scholarships to do so.
