Kid's Read!

Chava Ben David, one of our Kfar Adumim students in 8th grade had her excellent work chosen to be published in JELLY's Kid's Read Project.  Congratulations to Chava and her Teacher, Lisa Weinsoff!

Annual Readathon

This year we reached approximately 200 kids, with close to 2000 books read.  The Ma'aleh Adumim municipality supported us even more this year, and intends on continuing next year! Don't forget that every bit of sponsorship money helps us put more books on the shelves and into your children's hands.

New Programs

At the request of Tza'ad Kadimah,an educational non-profit in Rahat, A.H.A.V.A. ran a Teaching Seminar there to help set up informal English educational programs
'Native English Speakers' Program

This year we had a huge increase in enrollment due to the fact that A.H.A.V.A. was asked to create and run a viable program for the English Speakers of the Kfar Adumim School. It has been very successful, and we will be continuing next year.  We serve over 100 children in the five communities of Ma'aleh Adumim, Mitzpe Yerihco, Alon, Kfar Adumim and Nofei Prat. .  If you know of new people moving into a community in this area, even with only one English speaking parent, let them know about our programming.

Vicki  Fickler Memorial Library

We will be opening a large second branch in Kfar Adumim School, for the benefit of A.H.A.V.A. students and the general population of the school as well. We are very excited about the prospect and will spend a lot of time investing in this project over the summer.

"Breaking Through" Reading Tutorial Program

With our second grant for this program, this time from the East Bay Jewish Community Teen Foundation, we continued this successful reading fluency program both  in the Mitzpe Yericho school and in the Kfar Adumim School.
We would very much like to continue  with this program. In order to do so we need volunteers in these areas.
If you would like to make a difference in a child's life, with as little as one hour a week, contact Gaila.
Writing Contest

Writing on four different topic over five weeks, our A.H.A.V.A. English school students participated by writing creative essays and poetry.  We were delighted with all of the entries and are happy to see this program flourish. Over 30 students participated from grades 3 - 8. Remember that sponsorship of this event can be made in the name or memory of a loved one, a special occasion, or a Chessed Project.

Now more than ever we need your help. Any donation, no matter how small can help us. We have many opportunities to memorialize or honor someone. And our receipts can earn you money back from the tax man! Ask me if you do not know how to do this. We also can send tax deductible receipts in the US and Canada. Please be in touch with me for details.

Sincerely,

Gaila Cohen Morrison
