Call to CMMC Annual Meeting November 5, 2011
Greetings!
You are cordially invited to the 2011 Annual Meeting of the Chatham Marconi Maritime Center. The meeting will be held at the Chatham Community Center on Saturday, November 5, starting at 10:00 am. Coffee and doughnuts will be served at 9:30 am. The agenda for the meeting is shown below.

 

There were many significant achievements for CMMC during the past year. We have received two significant corporate gifts to our Capital fund. We opened our Center to the public at the end of June and remained open full time throughout the summer and part time until Columbus Day, welcoming over 3000 visitors while we were open.

 

CMMC has recently received funding from the Verizon Foundation for a major education initiative on Cape Cod. CMMC will partner with the MIT Club of Cape Cod and the Chatham and Harwich Public Schools to develop curriculum and teacher training materials in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) with a specific focus on Communications Engineering and Design. Our implementation plan includes active roles for both professionals and volunteers in K-12 classrooms throughout Cape Cod and the Islands.

 

We have invited Dr. Erich Bender, President of the MIT Club of Cape Cod, to speak at our meeting. An abstract of his talk is included below.

Erich Bender, President of the MIT Club of Cape Cod, will talk about the club and the engineering profession.  The club regularly provides programs to foster the intellectual development of its members and to support education at Cape Cod primary and secondary schools.  The engineering profession is based on a disciplined process that has led to the development of the countless devices and systems that enhance our contemporary world.  The process, fields of engineering, and how technical people function in their various roles will be addressed.
