New "Wireless Today" Exhibit and Generous Donation from Ericsson

Greetings!

This has been a busy time for CMMC. We redesigned our exhibits to add realism and content and to provide more opportunities for visitor involvement. The work was completed just in time for our opening to the public on June 28.

We unveiled our newest exhibit, "Wireless Today," on July 13. The exhibit was conceived with the help of experts from the Ericsson Corporation. We also announced a generous gift of $100,000 to our capital campaign from Ericsson (see link to Chronicle article below).

By the end of July, over 1,500 visitors had come to the Center. Informal conversations with our visitors have been overwhelmingly positive. Barbara Cotnam talked with one couple visiting from the Washington, DC, area, who said they travel frequently and seek out museums wherever they go. After spending over three hours in the exhibit area, they said: "We have never been to a more well-done museum. There is something of interest in every section, and we felt we learned so much about the history of wireless."

If you haven't already had a chance to visit, we look forward to seeing you at the Center. Our hours of operation are posted on our website.

Ericsson senior vice president Tim Moss joined museum president Charles Bartlett to open the Cape facility's new exhibit, provided by Ericsson, which includes artifacts from the past 30 years such as bulky car phones and the first brick sized cellphones with external antenna. The exhibit links the communication networks created by pioneer Guglielmo Marconi for ship-to-shore and other wireless communications in the early 20th century with modern-day transmissions of video, text, voice and data.
