Lisa Feinstein here, bringing you issue 5 of the Provisions newsletter. The summer has ended and the kids are going back to school. (Yay!) As the crazy carpooling, shlepping and general chaos begins, you'll need a quick, easy meal that can be made in one pot in under 30 minutes! Take that,Rachel Ray! Some of us are now facing down the big holidays. We get to eat a lot, blow a shofar, fast for a day and then eat a lot again. Make sure you don't have anything else to atone for - let us cook for you! |

Ok, we're not Oprah,
but we have a few places
that we thought you should know about.
Silver Lake Farms' gardening workshops are
back! - pick fresh from the garden and rush
to the kitchen with glee... The organic
gardening workshops they offer are about
helping people grow their own food and
flowers. There's something so incredibly
rewarding about growing your own from seed,
observing how plants transform and bear
fruits before making something deliciously
beautiful with them.
You don't need a lot of space, nor do you
have to grow everything immediately; try
starting with
tomatoes. They recommend
experimenting with Winter crops - broccolis,
cabbages, cauliflowers, lettuce. The time to
start them from seed is now. How does one
get started? Sign up at
www.silverlakefarms.com to learn how.
Our favorite online wine shop is The Accidental Wine Company. Why?- Because accidents happen. In fact, they count on it. All the wine they sell has some history. A bottle breaks and stains others in the case. A winery overproduces or shuts down its doors. A dirty, retired or discontinued label is not as in demand at your local wine merchant or favorite neighborhood bistro. Their supply varies from day to day so the brands will change, the vintages will be current, and the quality will be high. They've just discounted the wines to amazing, unmatchable prices. Think of it as a treasure hunt without the pirates, shovels or foul-mouthed parrot.
