The Pennsylvania DUI Association and Pennsylvania SADD are now the lead coordinating agencies for the statewide Project Sticker Shock campaign. After months of revising the stickers and modifying the guidebook, it is ready for release. We are very excited about this campaign, particularly because of the potential it has to bring about serious and much needed environmental changes as it strives to limit (and eliminate) access to alcohol by minors.
Project Sticker Shock has the capability to shape public policy, change behaviors, and enforce laws. In the process, it creates and strengthens alliances as communities unite to send a clear, concise message that underage drinking will not be tolerated, providing alcohol to minors (by adults) will not be accepted, and that laws will be enforced.
Since stickers shock's inception in 1995, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board has successfully administered the program statewide. We extend our sincerest appreciation to the PLCB, e-Team Prevention, and all those who have been involved with this project in developing, sustaining and implementing it throughout the years, throughout the Commonwealth.
We look forward to assisting you in administering this campaign in your community.

What Is Sticker Shock?
Project Sticker Shock is a youth-driven environmental approach designed to capitalize on community activism, cooperative efforts, and collective responsibilities to combat underage drinking and its related problems, such as adults providing alcohol to minors. The project not only educates, but also ensures that everyone will receive a consistent message about the law, and will motivate efforts to bring about change.
During the week of April 18-22, 2011, throughout Pennsylvania, local youth will visit participating licensed beverage distributors and place stickers on cases of alcoholic beverages. The stickers warn that it is illegal to buy for, or provide alcohol to, anyone under 21. In partnership with these communities, youth, and local distributors, the Pennsylvania DUI Association/PA SADD will provide all of the necessary materials to conduct the campaign, as well as provide information and technical assistance.
By participating in this project, youth from your community will be powerful stakeholders in the effort to combat underage drinking and to enforce the underage drinking laws. |

The Sticker
We will provide you with the Project Sticker Shock template to produce the stickers. Your cost to conduct this campaign would basically be only the expense of the labels, which can be bought in packs of 250 for less than $14/pack.
The template is in two colors for better visibility on the product, but if you don't have access to a color printer, black and white will suffice. You may add your group's logo between the SADD and Team DUI logos, but nothing can be removed from the template as it is.
The stickers are applied, by youth, to cases of alcohol at local beverage distributors.
Following any campaign for which this template is used, you must complete and return an "Activity Report Form." This will assist us greatly in measuring the use and the impact of the campaign statewide. |

Why April 18-22, 2011?
April was chosen because it is National Alcohol Awareness Month. The week of the 18-22nd was decided upon because, for most schools, that week directly precedes prom and graduation activity.
Project Sticker Shock is solely dependant upon the participation of licensed beverage distributors. In our effort to streamline the project, making it easier and more user-friendly, we initiated discussions with the Malt Beverage Ditributor's Association of Pennsylvania. The MBDA is the trade association for all Pennsylvania beer distributors. As a result of those talks, it was determined that it would be most effective to designate a specific time frame rather than randomly conducting the project throughout the year, because the MBDA will be in a better position to encourage its members to participate if there is a designated time period. With the MBDA's support, it will be much easier for communities to secure the participation of their local beverage distributors.
We encourage you to engage in this campaign activity during the specified week.
PA SADD will be conducting a statewide news conference in Harrisburg early next year to kick off the campaign and to generate media and public interest. |
