Greetings!
This month's edition focuses on time away and time to yourself especially through Melanie Holden's article on Snapshots. This is not an ordinary e-zine but a doorway in
which to open a deeper, stiller connection to yourself and to our
community of women supporting women. A moment to rest, replenish and
take a deep breath into the YOU that needs the quiet to hear what's
next on your journey. A moment in which to open your heart into your
dreams. My hope is that the Sisterhood. Spirit. And a little chocolate
(a little fun and sweetness) in this e-zine also gives you a bit of
sparkle and magic.

Dear Magic Friends, Welcome to our September 2009 edition of Magical Moments.A beautiful message for all time and for everyone.
Create your community.
Be good to each other.
And do not look outside yourself for the leader.
This could be a good time!
There is a river flowing now very fast.
It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid.
They will try to hold on to the shore.
They will feel they are being torn apart, and they will suffer greatly.
Know the river has its destination.
The elders say we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the
river, keep our eyes open, and our heads above the water.
See who is in there with you and celebrate.
At this time in history, we are to take nothing personally.
Least of all, ourselves.
For the moment that we do, our spiritual growth and journey comes to a halt.
The time of the lone wolf is over. Gather yourselves!
Banish the word struggle from your attitude and your vocabulary.
All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration.
We are the ones we've been waiting for.
-The Elders, Oraibi*,Arizona
Hopi Nation (written in response to 9/11). *Oraibi is a Hopi village, founded
before the year 1100 AD, in Navajo
County, Arizona. It
is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the US.
Magical Musings
Have you created your communities in which to grow and remember who you really are?
Magically yours,

Snapshots
By
Melanie Calitri Holden
My girlfriends and I took a vacation on our own. No husbands, no
children. Just us. We wandered the rocky coast of Maine, picked blueberries, and watched the
light fade and a sea of diamonds emerge in the night sky. We talked endlessly,
telling stories of our lives, past and present, and our dreams of a glorious
future. We listened with love and patience, adding only a little advice when
called for. It wasn't an easy time for some of us. Job changes, miscarriages,
deaths, and divorces. But somehow, we survived these things, and being together
gave us strength and courage.
One day,
down at the arcade, we met an old gentleman who told stories of the sea. His
face and hands were tan and weathered by long years of exposure, and he sat on
a crate with a tabby cat asleep on his lap. He pushed his seaman's cap back and
wiped his forehead. He spoke with a voice like waves washing over tumbled
beachstones. We sat around his feet, school children at story time, entranced.
He told us stories of fierce storms throwing ships against the rocks, and then
of calm and beautiful seas when the seals were at play. Throughout each tale of
danger or delight, his eyes sparkled in the retelling. Only when he declared he
was too parched to tell anymore tales did we move on. We bought him a Coke and
a sandwich and left him with our thanks.
Later
that afternoon we dangled our feet in the sea spray and talked about our
sea-faring gentleman and the stories he told. Each of us gathered something
special from the old man; a bit of courage to weather the storms in our own
lives, a spark of adventure igniting our spirits, a sense of calm and peace as
he described the sea at dawn. Each snapshot of his life and experience brought
some unique gift and it was up to each of us to claim it for our own.
And so it
is with all stories that we share. The teller is honored in the sharing, and
the listener receives the wisdom, clarity, and inspiration she needs in that
moment and the meaning hidden in the story just
for her to discover.
I will
never forget that day, that week. Just a snapshot in my long life, and one that
I keep returning to for inspiration and joy. As we prepared to leave our Maine hideaway, we
hugged each other through tears and laughter, each aware of the ways our
friendship had been enriched and undeniably deepened by the stories we told.
The love that grew in that short time together, and continues to grow between
us, is bold and beautiful. I wanted to take a snapshot of that, too, but some
things don't show up on film.
