Nell Bolton Shares Her Travelogue to Southeast Asia
The past few weeks have taken me on a journey not only across countries and landscapes, but also among the varied religious communities of Southeast Asia. For example, in the 26 hours it took me to travel from Bangkok to Dili (with transfers and an overnight layover), I moved from a Thailand so piously Buddhist that monks are accorded special seating on trains and VIP privileges in airport security lanes, though Muslim Malaysia and Hindu Bali to East Timor, where 96% of the population is Catholic! If only this proximity could serve as a reminder that diversity is not only inevitable in this world of 7 billion, but is actually a beautiful part of the experience of human community. Christ Centered Prayer Workshop Oct 6th
Trinity Church, New Orleans
Christ Centered Prayer Workshop at Trinity, New Orleans: Saturday, October 6, Trinity will welcome the Reverend Sandy Casey-Martus for a one-day, introductory workshop on Christ Centered Prayer, a form of contemplative prayer.
Participants will be invited to learn about the practice, try it for themselves, and incorporate it into their personal rhythm of prayer. Sandy writes, "Christ Centered Prayer builds upon previous contemplative practices without reliance on sacred images, breath, thoughts, or words. It is easy to learn and fulfills Jesus' invitation to, 'Come and find rest for your souls.' With Jesus as model, scriptures as reference, tradition as custodian, sacraments as celebration, and selfless service as mission, Christ Centered Prayer finds its source, sustenance, and direction." Sandy has studied various forms of contemplative prayer for over thirty years. She is currently Associate Rector of All Saints by the Sea Episcopal Church in Santa Barbara.
Space is limited to only thirty people. The workshop begins at 9am in the Parish House. We will share a catered buffet lunch of fresh, local foods from Nolavore and conclude our time together at 3pm. A fee of $30 covers food and materials. Financial assistance is available. To register, contact Peter Gray at (504) 670-2584 or pgray@trinitynola.com. Trinity is located at 1329 Jackson Avenue in New Orleans.
