St. Margaret's Bell Tower Goes Up!

Saint Margaret's is taking steps to better communicate its presence in Baton Rouge as a vibrant Episcopal parish here for over forty years.

As part of its "Putting Forward the Face of Saint Margaret's" campaign, they have begun work on a new bell tower. The project includes the bell tower, a much improved main sign, a landscaped memorial garden with 40' flagpole, a new Web page, and several "Episcopal Church Welcomes You" signs. The parish's bell, Gabriel, will be a visible and audible part of this effort to promote the Gospel and this active and loving community to the surrounding city. St. Matthew's Episcopal School introduces iPads in classrooms

HOUMA - As technology becomes more integrated in people's lives, the faculty and students at St. Matthew's Episcopal School in Houma are working to keep pace while integrating technological tools for educational advantage.

Each seventh-grade student will have exclusive on-campus use of an iPad, kindergarteners will have an iPad center in the classroom. Remaining grade-level teachers will be able to schedule floating iPads for their classes' use.

One of the greatest advantages of using iPads in the classroom is the ability of students to excel at their own pace with teachers customizing lessons plans and apps to match the instructional needs of each child.

"We are not only giving kids a new, engaging way to learn, we are also preparing them for technology in the future... It is exciting," said Cheryl Matherne, head of St. Matthew's Episcopal School.

The new technology was funded through generous donors and friends of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church and School, located at 226 Gabasse St. in Houma.  Read More
