Introducing the Episcopal Community Service's Asset Map "Ministry Spotlight"

Here is a sneak peek of the work Episcopal Community Service of Louisiana is doing on the Asset Map. The official launch date is not until autumn 2012 but we could not wait to share with you one of the many inspirational stories of ministry found throughout the Diocese.

Ministry Spotlight: St. James Episcopal Church Food Pantry

St. James Episcopal Church, which started in 1844, has always strived to be present to the needs around them. The church is active in more than 40 ministries. One of these ministries, the St. James Food Pantry was opened 26 years ago. It is a designated distribution site of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. Each month, the food bank serves over 100 people and is open the first and third Wednesday mornings.

"The city's homeless and hungry are an ever-present reality here," says Allen Patterson, coordinator of the St. James Food Pantry. "There is a real need, a need we could not ignore."

"Due to things such as unemployment, poverty, the lack of affordable housing, the periodic downturns of our economy and countless other reasons, so many families are struggling," says Nancy Penn church member & the founder of the St. James Food Pantry...

Read more of this article on the ECSLA website where you can also view a video about the ministry; read a "How to Guide" for advice on how to start your own food bank; and check out additional resources about food banks, hunger and how to end hunger in your community.

St. Luke's Baton Rouge Considers New Rector Candidates

The search committee at St. Luke's in Baton Rouge has begun the process of contacting candidate priests to become their new rector. More than two dozen priests are on their list, representing 13 seminaries!

St. Luke's began the search process last January. Parishioners spent several months in self-study, involving small focus group discussions, parish-wide gatherings, and an on-line survey overseen by Canon Mark Stevenson from our diocesan office. Please join St. Luke's in praying for their search process, for search committee members, and for their next rector, wherever that priest may be serving God now!

A Journey Of Hope and Renewal

The Addictions Recovery Ministry of the Diocese of Louisiana announces its 29th annual weekend for women and men who are or wish to be in recovery. The weekend will take place at the Conference Center in Loranger, Louisiana, August 3-5, 2012.

Recovery is a journey of hope and renewal.  This weekend we will explore the miracles that give us hope along with the behaviors and character traits that cause us grief.  We will examine the things we need to let go of that clutter our souls and the gifts that we can receive and develop as a result of our struggles and our recovery.  We will recognize the hope within our recovery journey and the joy of God's surprises along the way.
