Living With Purposea program of Episcopal Community Services
Living With Purpose is designed to equip young adults to be effective leaders in our complex world, through hands-on service, community building, and spiritual formation. Participants spend 11 months living together and working with creative programs including rebuilding homes, revitalizing communities, and working with young people. At each site placement, participants develop their leadership potential and gain concepts, skills, and orientations essential for effective community engagement. The program is built upon proven service opportunities and the involvement of thousands of young volunteers with issues of poverty, justice, and community building.
In the course of the year, participants will also engage in discussions, seminars, and trainings designed to add greater depth of understanding of their community, their work, and their faith. The spiritual formation curriculum exposes Corps members to different spiritual practices, and educates through reading books together, journaling, and discussion. Learn more by visiting the LWP site.
Come and join us as a volunteer at the 77th General Convention of the Episcopal Church - share your skills and talents with the Church, while learning and seeing how the General Convention works from behind the scenes.
The General Convention will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana, and runs July 5-12, 2012.

Racial Sobriety Workshop
The Diocesan Committee for Racial Reconciliation is conducting a free introductory workshop on Racial Sobriety on the evening of Wednesday, May 30, from 6-9 p.m. It will be held in the Atrium Room at Christ Church Cathedral, 2919 St. Charles Ave. in New Orleans. We will have food available at 5:30, so you will not have to skip dinner.
Our training subcommittee has reviewed the Racial Sobriety training concepts, and the book upon which the training is based. They were impressed with the approach and its flexibility to address both different time frames and a broad variety of target audiences.
This introductory workshop is being arranged in conjunction with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese's Racial Harmony Committee, which will be providing the instructors. I anticipate that several members of that group will join us, as well. I owe Sister Teresa Rooney a debt of gratitude for her help with this.
Tyrone Chambers has agreed to coordinate the event for us, so please let him know as soon as possible if you will be able to attend. Please feel free to invite others who you feel would benefit from the workshop, including other clergy, fellow church members, friends, etc., but be sure to give their names to Tyrone ASAP. We are limiting this introductory workshop to 25 persons, so please get back to Tyrone quickly. His e-mail address is tycham@gmail.com.
If it is oversubscribed, as I suspect it will be, we will schedule a second workshop in the near future.
