The Bishop's Annual Mission Appeal kicks off in May - and with some exciting changes. In order to further extend our reach, Bishop Thompson has separated BAMA from the diocese's program budget. In addition, he has decided to equally divide the proceeds among the following:
- The rebuilding of St. Matthew's, Houma as it recovers from a fire that destroyed the historic church building in 2010;
- Outreach to international groups and people in need, through our own Partners in Mission;
- A financial reserve for unforeseen disasters and events throughout the year.
Next month, parishoners will receive letters in the mail as well as some materials at church. If you have any questions, please ask your clergy or call our offices at 225.706.6634 or 504.895.6634.
Thank you in advance for your participation in the Bishop's Annual Mission Appeal!
Visit the BAMA page on the EDOLA website to learn more about this years recipients.

Dividing Sudan - Slater Armstrong
The Sudan crisis is a complex conflict. This brief is oversimplified by default. Many have heard of the Darfur genocide, and may know that the South voted to secede last January, forming a new nation on July 9, 2011. Few know of the Nuba genocide which lasted from 1985-2002, devastati ng the population by roughly half, and renewed on June 5, 2011. The Nuba fought in self-defense with the South against the regime of Khartoum, but were not given the choice to secede.
For the past 11 months Sudan's President Bashir bombed civilians daily, preventing their harvesting/planting food, displacing the entire population (approx. 500,000) now living in caves for shelter. Bashir denied all requests for humanitarian access. Experts calculate full scale famine will again decimate the noble Nuba remnants of Cush on the brink of extinction within weeks (many are Christian / Episcopalian).
We must act to save them by contacting our government and the UN through this website - www.ACTforSudan.org - calling on them to "force aid through" to the civilian population. Click on the photo to view a video...
