Funeral service for the Reverend Nelson Longnecker

Funeral services will be held for the Reverend Nelson Longnecker, former Rector of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion, Plaquemine, on Saturday, January 21, 2012. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM with a Requiem Mass to begin at 11:00 AM. The Right Reverend Charles Jenkins will celebrate and the Reverend Karen Gay, Rector of Holy Communion, will preach.
Interment will follow at a later date.

All are invited to attend. Clergy not involved in the liturgy will not vest.

May the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
 
Clergy Retreat: Jan 31 - Feb 210 Bridesmaids

Gift of Gratitude Workshop at St. Andrew's Feb 4th

SSJE LogoSt. Andrew's, New Orleans, is offering a workshop on the Gift of Gratitude on February 4, 2012, at our Chalstrom Parish House across Zimpel Street from the Church.  You and interested members of your congregation are invited to attend.  Brother David Vryhof of the Society of St. John the Evangelist will lead the workshop.  Registration beforehand will be necessary.  Please call the Church Office at 504-866-0123 or email Mother Gaumer before January 30th if you plan to attend.  Space is somewhat limited, so please let us know very soon.

 Absalom Jones Celebration - Trinity New Orleans
 
10 BridesmaidsTrinity Episcopal Church on Jackson Avenue will hold its annual Absalom Jones Celebration Wednesday, February 8 at 6 P.M.  The event honors the gifts and contributions of African-Americans across the Church on the occasion of the feast of the Reverend Absalom Jones, who was born a slave, worked to purchase the freedom of his wife and himself, and went on to become the first African-American ordained a priest in the Episcopal Church.  The celebration will feature the Reverend Deacon Joseph Wallace as guest preacher; Anais St. John, alto, Troy Poplous, baritone; and Timothy Ray, Director of the Second Free Mission Baptist Church Choir. 

Trinity Episcopal Church is located at 1329 Jackson Avenue.  The Trinity Undoing Racism Network (TURN) will host a reception following the service.  For more information, call (504) 670-2584.  
 
ChurchWork Spring Issue Deadline: Jan 27th

ChurchWorkThe Spring issue of ChurchWork submission deadline is Friday, January 27. This issue will be mailed in late February with the intention of also distributing it at Diocesan Convention.

When submitting photographs, please ensure that they are 300 dpi and that they are at least 3 inches x 3 inches. Photos that are grabbed from the Internet or taken with a cell phone are too small and cannot be used. Submissions to rpitre@edola.org

Convention Exhibitors and Vendors:

Some space remains available for exhibits related to special programs, services, mission work, youth activities, as well as vendors, at the 175th Diocesan Convention on March 2-3, 2012. Table registration and reservation information is available from Mildred Taylor or Elizabeth Griffin. Exhibitors and vendors will need to have representatives on site; we do not have personnel to cover your table. Deadline for registration is January 30.
