Three Ordinations to the Priesthood in December

Dear Sisters and Brothers -
I have the joy and honor of announcing to you that we have set the dates for the ordination to the priesthood of our three remaining Clergy and Congregational Development Program (CDDP) pastors: - Harry Jenkins (Christ Church, Slidell) on Tuesday, December 6 @ 6:30 PM (red stoles);
- Patrick Edwards (St. Margaret's, Baton Rouge) on Thursday, December 8 @ 6:30 PM (white stoles); and
- Cal Lane (St. Mary's, Franklin) on Tuesday, December 13 @ 6:30 PM (red stoles.)
I believe it to be particularly important that priests, deacons, the laity come out to support these ordinands and their congregations. To help in this, we are working on getting buses to transport folks from Baton Rouge to Slidell and Franklin, and from New Orleans to Baton Rouge and Franklin. Expect to hear more about this soon. These three individuals have been doing great work in their congregations, and we are blessed to have them in Louisiana. I thank you in advance for your willingness to support these fine soon-to-be priests in their ministry.
Faithfully, +Morris The Rt. Rev'd Morris K. Thompson, Jr. Bishop of Louisiana

Advent Choral Evensong Multi Church Event
Sunday, December 4, 4:00 PM -- St. Alban's Chapel. LSUSince Advent season of 2006 the congregations of St. Augustine's and St. Michael's Episcopal Churches in Baton Rouge have been sponsoring the beautiful and time-honored tradition of Advent Choral Evensong. We have been joined in this venture by individual singers from Broadmoor Baptist, St. Luke's Episcopal, and University Methodist Churches. We sing in a chapel reminiscent of European cathedrals --- the sanctuary at St. Alban's, whose staff and congregation graciously loan us their facilities each year. This year we sing plainchant, Taize', folk song, Bach, Mendelssohn, and works by three modern master composers. Officiant is the Rev. S. Chad Jones, of St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, Zachary. Reception follows Evensong. Parking -- behind St. Alban's. Enter from Dalrymple.

Sunday Gospel Brunches Hosted By Local Pubs
St. Anna's church distributes over 30 bags of groceries monthly to families in need and has been doing so for the past three years. In support of this community work several local businesses including John-Paul's, The Friendly Bar, Cutters, and others as well as several social and civic groups have each stepped up to raise monies for the food pantry. John-Paul's located on Elysian Fields plans a Gospel Brunch starting at noon on November 27th and December 18th to benefit miss ions at St. Anna's. The most recent event raised over $300 for the medical mission. When recently asked about the role of St. Anna's Church in this community a parishioner responded to HRC national web sit e saying that our outreach was vast but not contrived and people were responding to the active role of this church in community, if you would like to read his entire article go to this blog website.
"Events like these help tell the wonderful story of the community support that we have and its importance to this church and our faith...we are very proud of all of our members and our community partners. I know they don't always look like typical church folk but by golly they are good people doing good things", says Fr. Terry; a sentiment echoed by Mary Dodwell, a long time member of St. Anna's and avid supporter of its community out-reach programs, partners, and the HRC.
