It's busy and exciting time of year! Thanks to all who joined us for a great night of learning from our hosts, the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Conference & Visitors Bureau (CVB) and Towne Park. Both are organizations that touch residents and visitors.
When planning a trip to the Annapolis area, thousands of visitors begin with the CVB -- looking into what to do, where to stay, where to eat. And a growing number of those potential visitors want to know what Green options are available. The CVB is right there with that information and more.
The City garages, managed by Towne Park, are usually visitors' first contact once they reach Annapolis. How wonderful that Towne Park is well on its way to making the garages super-Green and more than just a place to park a car.
For many of you, our event was the first time you'd been in the CVB. Think of it as your source of information too, even though you're not a visitor. The CVB is committed to its own Greening practices as explained in its sustainable business practices policy. It also is a supporting partner of Maryland Green Travel. And, the CVB is powered by 100% wind via Clean Currents. Many of you joined in the informative garage tour, led by Towne Park's Brian Arnold -- the Green Garage Tourmaster. On the tour you learned about about the energy saving measures, electric car charging stations, other new technologies, and plans for the future for all of Annapolis' garages. More information. Thank you to Professor Bob Bruninga, who teaches aerospace engineering at the Naval Academy, for bringing his solar-powered, plug-in Prius to Green Drinks. Bob spent a lot of time telling people about electric cars and about how he converted his car to solar. And to the other EV owner who joined in, thank you! Thank you to our wonderful volunteers, without whom we could not have made Green Drinks Annapolis happen: Dave Geipe, Cathie Trogdon, and Leslie Trott. Also, the staff and volunteers at the Conference and Visitors Center were fabulous in helping with set up and clean up. We'd especially like to thank Sue McKenzie. Towne Park staff was terrific in helping make our event a success, particularly Brian Arnold, Kevin Harvey, and Kristen Zick. And thank you to Wild Orchid and Tsunami for the delicious appetizers and to Mills Fine Wine & Spirits for the tastings of Zellerbach sustainable wines, and beer. Our next Green Drinks is coming up quickly and it consists of a special invitation to the Maryland Green Designer Show Home! Carpool just a bit "west" to the brand-spanking-new home, built by Baldwin Homes, a local builder with terrific Green credentials. This edition of Green Drinks is a little different in that it is a fund raiser for Hospice of the Chesapeake and Make-a-Wish Mid Atlantic. The Baldwin company has chosen to launch the completion of this home, with information about its eco-friendly, energy-saving and healthy features, with a series of fund raisers for these worthy charities. We'll have more on that later, but for now, please save the date: Tuesday, October 9, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. The home is at 1760 Holladay Park Road, Preserve at Severn Run, Gambrills.
And just to close, we have big news. Annapolis Green is introducing FULL recycling to the Annapolis Boat Shows! Stay tuned.
Elvia & Lynne

Festival Greening
There are so many outdoor events in Annapolis and our goal is to help make all of them as Green as possible. The biggest of the special events in Annapolis, of course, are the boat shows. The management of United States Yacht Shows demonstrated its concern for the environment last year when we began to work with the company; we arranged for our partners, WasteStrategies, to conduct a waste audit. With that information, just this week we were given the go-ahead to divert many pounds of recyclables from the landfill stream by deploying our colorful eco-stations throughout the show. More information is coming soon, but we already have a rallying call to action, a twist on the 3 Rs of boating: Red Right Recycling!
Don't know what that is? Just ask a boater ... and that's a clue as to why the "n" in Annapolis Green is red!
And large or small, If you are planning and outdoor event, make a Green one! Recycle, compost food scraps and leftovers (including crab shells), and save the oyster shells for the Oyster Recovery Partnership. The baby oysters need them to set on and grow. Send us an email if you're interested in contracting with us for help with this.

We rolled our last Green Drinks into an almost-two-week-long series of events focusing on clean transportation -- specifically Electric Vehicles. We had a very successful showcase of electric cars on City Dock last Sunday, September 23, National Plug-In Day.
The emphasis on Electric Vehicles isn't over! On October 11, from 2 to 4 p.m., there will be a special event on the steps of the Statehouse to rally support for EVs and the infrastructure to support them. Driving America Green will make a stop in Annapolis and there will be speakers (including our own Elvia Thompson), test rides of EVs, and more. Details, photos & video.
