Wednesday, Sept. 19
5:30-7:30 p.m.
Annapolis & AA County Conference & Visitors Bureau 26 West Street with Tours of Gott's Court Garage next door
|
"Driven To Green!" That's us and that's Green Drinks' theme next Wednesday! It's a terrific tie-in with the motto of our co-host, Towne Park's, Foundation's motto, "Driven to Serve." Towne Park has been quietly taking bold steps to bring good Green practices and a little bit of fun those structures we locals and visitors use every day. The humble, gray garage is no more. When Towne Park is done, the garages will be super energy efficient, clean and bright, and full of information for locals and visitors alike. There will be fun "Help us take care of the Bay" messages, "How do I get to..." messages, and cheerful concierges to provide assistance. And we are very excited that they will all have charging stations, or "Juice Bars" for electric cars! The fun part of our night will be the tours of Gott's Court Garage that Towne Park will offer so you can see for yourself what makes a garage Green. We'd like to raise our glasses with a hearty toast to the Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Conference & Visitors Bureau for co-hosting. The CVB works very hard to bring economic vitality to the area by promoting our attractions and way of life to visitors from all over the world. And, we're excited to share how they're doing their part in encouraging and promoting Green hospitality for our residents and visitors! We rolled Green Drinks into a project we started this Wednesday with our Radio Show, Living Green in Annapolis. We're in the midst of "Electric Vehicle Days in Annapolis," a series of events to bring awareness of this clean transportation technology to the public -- including you! Read the sidebar for more info. Once again Mills Fine Wine & Spirits will provide sustainably grown wines -- this time from Zellerbach, including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet and the appetizers are going to be fabulous as they will be provided by The Wild Orchid. There are so many eco-oriented activities going on this weekend that it's mind-boggling. Be sure to check our calendar online for a complete list of events of interest to the environmental community. We'd like to welcome our newest Founding One Hundred Sponsor, Hannah Studios, Inc. The very talented Karin Hannah Stern often helps us greet Green Drinkers and has helped us with several graphics projects. Thank you for your support, Karin! Cheers,
Elvia & Lynne
PS - Visit our Facebook page (link at the left, at the top) and share your Green opinions, articles, whatever. Let's make it a community forum.

Festival Greening
Over the past few weeks we rolled out our Festival Greening program powered by the sponsorship of Severn Savings Bank. The first was at Wellness House's La Fiesta Del Verano on August 25.
The next festival in the Severn Bank-powered program was last weekend -- at the Maryland Seafood Festival at Sandy Point Park. We'll have a report soon on how much waste was diverted from the landfill through these efforts. We know it was many, many pounds. And we know that patrons of both events were glad to have recycling available.
If you are planning and outdoor event, make a Green one! Recycle, compost food scraps and leftovers (including crab shells), and save the oyster shells. The baby oyster need them to set on and grow. Contact us if you're interested in having our help with this.

Electric Vehicles are here. They are mainstream, they are good for the environment, and we want you to know all about them. That's why we put together Electric Vehicle Days in Annapolis, working with the Electric Vehicle Association of Greater DC. Come to all of any of these events to learn more and to get that "EV Grin."
Our "Days" began with our radio show (see info at the right) with a panel of experts from EVA DC, Brian Arnold from Towne Park, and Russell Rankin from the all-electric cCruisers. The addressed a lot of the questions people have about driving electric.
Tomorrow, Sept. 15, you'll have a chance to see a number of EVs in person in our second event, an EV Showcase on City Dock, from noon to 5 p.m. Come talk to the owners. They'll give you the straight scoop.
On Monday, Sept. 17, we're showing a documentary, "What is the Electric Car," and video of test drives and reviews of EVs, courtesy of John Davis of PBS' MotorWeek. That will be at the Annapolis Maritime Museum, at 7 p.m. There will be a small charge of $5 to help pay for the film and the room.
And there are going to be a few EVs parked outside the Visitors Center during Green Drinks on Wednesday, Sept. 19, so you can see them there too.
On Sunday, Sept. 23, we'll repeat the EV Showcase on City Dock, from noon to 5 p.m., with a slightly different lineup of cars. Sept. 23 is National Plug-In Day and this will be the first time Annapolis will have a presence at this event!
And rounding things off on Thursday, Sept. 27, we'll be part of a nationwide ride to raise aware ness about EVs called Driving America Green. The organizers of the project are visiting every state capital and staging events to engage the public and the politicians! Events kick off at 2 p.m. outside of the State House.
