Top of the Line
We had a terrific end of summer Green Drinks last week at WEST. The evening was perfect and our crowd made use of both the inside and the outside of this beautiful restaurant at Loews Annapolis Hotel. Thank you Stacy Baird, Chef Kevin Reif, and General Manager James LoBosco for their hospitality, delicious appetizers and generous two-for-one entree certificate given to al l the Green Drinkers who wanted to return for dinner later. Several stayed for dinner that very night and everyone raved about the food. We love the outdoor seating area with the comfy chairs. WEST was just recognized as the state's 5th Maryland Green Travel restaurant partner. Click here learn all about WEST's Green practices. Carla Lucente, owner of bb Bistro, the 4th restaurant partner, attended as well. We were glad to be joined by several of our Founding One Hundred sponsors -- including our newest, Paul Murphy -- and our Board members. Of course, we can't put these events on without volunteers. A big thanks goes out to Nick DiPasquale (self-described Greeter-in-Training), who is the head of the Chesapeake Bay Program; Karin Hannah, a fabulous graphic designer who collaborated with us on our new businesses cards; and Elly Tierney, owner of Chez Amis B&B.
We're working out the details of our next Green Drinks on September 19 - Green Garages! Stay tuned. Be sure to check our calendar online for a complete list of events of interest to the environmental community. And don't miss info about participating an important award and recognition opportunity; it's in the column on the left. Cheers,
Elvia & Lynne

Festival Greening
Over the past few weeks we rolled out our Festival Greening program powered by the sponsorship of Severn Savings Bank. The first was at Wellness House's La Fiesta Del Verano on August 25.
The next festival in the Severn Bank-powered program will be this weekend -- at the Maryland Seafood Festival at Sandy Point Park. Not only will we make recycling available at the Seafood Fest, but also composting. Just think how many pounds of left over food and scraps we will divert from the landfill in this way!
Over this last weekend our Festival Greening program also took off at the CBYRA (Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association) Annapolis Race Week shore parties. Our colorful bins were at the party tents on City Dock. We don't have the final numbers yet but the diversion rate (how much waste went to recycling rather than the landfill) was over 80 percent! Congratulations to CBYRA for being good Bay stewards in this manner!
We were able to provide composting at Towne Park's Bogeys and Birds Golf Tournament last week too. In this case it was mainly crab shells, which are a great material for composting. We love being partners with Veteran Compost on this and with WasteStrategies.
Are you planning an outdoor event or festival? Contact us if you're interested in Greening it. We'd love to show you how.

Green Golf
Galway Bay, one of our Founding One Hundred sponsors, is hosting a golf tournament with a live auction, at Old South Country Club in Lothian on September 10. Galway Bay's Annual Golf Tournament, now in its 13th year, is a great fun-filled day of golf with a serious purpose. Galway Bay, in partnership with the Rotary Club of South Anne Arundel County, holds this golfing fundraiser to benefit work being done in Nhekamenya, Malawi, Africa, and the Holy Cross Parish community in that village. The In Aid of Water 2013 project's goal is to build 15 water wells providing clean, safe water for many villagers. Past tournaments have helped provide clean water and a maize mill for the Parish and other projects are in the works. Learn more about the Malawi Friends project.
This is your chance to play on the renowned Old South Country Club normally available to members only. Registration closes on September 5. There also will be a raffle in conjunction with the event for a trip for two to Ireland (a $3000 value). Only 600 tickets will be sold and the drawing will be held at the tournament. For information on the tournament, click here. ---
One of our newest Founding One Hundred sponsors, The Brick Companies, is featuring its sponsorship of Annapolis Green on its website. Check it out! Brick is holding its 10th Annual Brick Companies Classic Golf Tournament on October 2 at its very Green course on the Eastern Shore, Queenstown Harbor. The tournament will support the programs and initiatives of The National Wildlife Federation and The Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center, in direct alignment with Brick's mission to reconnect people with the land and inspire others to do the same. | Information
