Top of the Line
 | Tuesday, August 28 5:30-7:30 p.m. WEST Kitchen & Tavern Loews Annapolis Hotel 126 West Street Free. No RSVP. Cash bar. |
We're returning to the Loews for Green Drinks tomorrow... But this time "Heading WEST!" Come join us to toast the end of summer.
In addition to highlighting this wonderful new locally sourced restaurant, its food, drink and eco-friendly practices, we're going to borrow from WEST's tagline, "It's not just a Direction Anymore."
Yes, you might have guessed it, our theme is Direction!
Annapolis Green's new direction is Action: Here are just check out a few we have underway:
- Annapolis Green Festival Greening Program -- Visit (and use!) our eco-stations at Green Drinks and learn more
- Living Green in Annapolis on WNAV -- Listen every Wednesday evening starting next week from 6-7 p.m.
- Our partnership with Clean Currents - Start saving money! We're looking to put some Wind in your sails. Learn more.
- Electric Vehicle Days in Annapolis - Sept. 15-23. We're going to answer all your questions about plug in cars, motorcycles, and bikes, and where to charge them, starting and ending with a showcase of vehicles on City Dock so you can talk their owners. Details to come.
Come to Green Drinks and learn more - about us, about how you can be involved.
Yes, yes, we're doing a bit of self promotion, but we want you all to know what we're doing, what we're planning and how you can join in and spread the Good Green word. So please be sure to bring flyers, announcements, information about your events or programs. We will have a big display table for that and a bulletin board. We can't have everyone speak -- our gatherings are just too big -- but we will do the best we can to bring attention to your information and of course, we will post it on our website.
WEST is beautiful both inside and out. Weather permitting, we'll take over the outdoor deck, which is very swanky and has great comfy outdoor furniture too. Our hosts at WEST will treat us to a variety of sustainable wines, local beers, and maybe a special drink! Appetizers will be delicious and, no doubt, locally sourced.
And please, afterward - stay for dinner! WEST's management promises to give each and every one of us a special incentive to return.
Remember you have choices in getting to our event. Share a ride with a friend, bike, walk... and remember, the eCruisers service the Loews - hop a ride! Read more about changes in eCruisers' service below.
Be sure to check our calendar online for a complete list of events of interest to the environmental community. And don't miss info about participating in several awards and recognition opportunities; it's in the column on the left.
See you tomorrow!
Cheers,
Elvia & Lynne
PS - Visit our Facebook page (link at the left, at the top) and share your Green opinions, articles, whatever. Let's make it a community forum.

Annapolis Green Night at the Bowie Baysox
We had a blast at the Bowie Baysox game Friday. Thanks to all who attended to support Annapolis Green. And a huge thanks to Russell Rankin who brought an eCruiser to be our "display table." Lots of kids & parents stopped by, including our Board member Charlie Birney and his family and Annapolis Mayor Josh Cohen and his daughter, Naomi.
Baysox mascots Rocko and Louie came by as did the Ship's Company chanteymen. The image at right is Rocko with Chesapeake Bay Trust's Kristin Foringer. See more photos on our website.
Update on eCruisers' Service
Russell is a great supporter of Annapolis Green, flying our banners on his electric vehicles whenever he can. These great electric cars always draw a crowd, on or off the road.
But, have you been wondering, like the rest of us, about the limited service of these hometown electric cars these days? Here's the scoop. Sadly, the eCruisers are no longer providing the Annapolis restaurant shuttle that serviced and benefited all of downtown. These nimble, clean, Green cars are financed by sponsorships so they can offer free rides (with tips to the drivers appreciated). Without the support of a major sponsor or the City's backing, the business model was simply not sustainable.
The eCruisers, with a fleet of 13 and growing, are now keeping more than busy by providing service to the Loews Annapolis Hotel and its guests as well as working for private events or special events such as weddings, festivals and tons of sporting events like the Baltimore Grand Prix, Ravens and Redskins games, Boat Shows... and even the upcoming Nats playoffs. In this capacity they offer as many cars as are needed for a sponsored shuttle service. You will still see them dash about town on runs for the hotel. On slower weekdays they are happy to pick up anyone who flags them down.
If you have a special party, a friend's wedding that needs a unique shuttle with great photo ops and banners or as their tag line goes "Advertising that Moves People," please, contact Russell Rankin at rgr@eCruisersllc.com.

Green Golf
Galway Bay, one of our Founding One Hundred sponsors, is hosting a golf tournament with a live auction, at Old South Country Club in Lothian on September 10. Galway Bay's Annual Golf Tournament, now in its 13th year, is a great fun-filled day of golf with a serious purpose. Galway Bay, in partnership with the Rotary Club of South Anne Arundel County, holds this golfing fundraiser to benefit work being done in Nhekamenya, Malawi, Africa, and the Holy Cross Parish community in that village. The In Aid of Water 2013 project's goal is to build 15 water wells providing clean, safe water for many villagers. Past tournaments have helped provide clean water and a maize mill for the Parish and other projects are in the works. Learn more about the Malawi Friends project.
This is your chance to play on the renowned Old South Country Club normally available to members only. Registration closes on September 5. There also will be a raffle in conjunction with the event for a trip for two to Ireland (a $3000 value). Only 600 tickets will be sold and the drawing will be held at the tournament. For information on the tournament, click here.

One of our newest Founding One Hundred sponsors, The Brick Companies, is featuring its sponsorship of Annapolis Green on its website. Check it out! Brick is holding its 10th Annual Brick Companies Classic Golf Tournament on October 2 at its very Green course on the Eastern Shore, Queenstown Harbor. The tournament will support the programs and initiatives of The National Wildlife Federation and The Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center, in direct alignment with Brick's mission to reconnect people with the land and inspire others to do the same. | Information

the only reason to get off your bottom
Sandy Bottom is a refreshing pre-mixed cocktail that was created by a local Annapolitan, Sandy Mazza, while boating on the Chesapeake Bay. Imagine that... boating and having cocktails with friends once the anchor is down... and they loved it! Sandy turned this cocktail concept into a bottled product and now can be enjoyed by many. Sandy Bottom is carbonated coconut rum with natural lemonade and lime flavors that has a refreshing sweet-tart composition. It is made in America and sold locally at Bay Ridge Wine and Spirits, Rite Aid, Eastport Liquors, Scott Brothers, Fishpaws, and McGarvey's. More locations will come as Sandy Bottom grows. In addition to Sandy Bottom's creator being local, the aluminum "bottle can" is 100% recyclable making it very green. Look for regular samplings in our community and at one of the Green Drinks events this summer.
