Top of the Line

Hello, Everyone!

We've been silent for the past month or so but we've been very busy and have a lot to tell you about. We've missed getting together, yet, our "summer break" has been very constructive for Annapolis Green.

We did have a terrific opportunity, proposed by Galway Bay to host a "thank you" reception in July for our Founding One Hundred sponsors. We were delighted to have the chance to thank them for their support and to introduce a few others to our mission and our plans. We appreciate the gracious and generous hospitality of Galway Bay Irish Pub in hosting us and are delighted to welcome that wonderful Green establishment as a Founding One Hundred sponsor! Want to join the list? We'd love to welcome you too! Read more.

On our website, we've summarized the information we presented at the reception. It's all about Annapolis Green's accomplishments thus far and our plans for the future as leaders of the Eco-Evolution in Annapolis! Read more.

One big bit of exciting news is that Annapolis Green will host a one-hour radio show on environmental topics every Wednesday from 6-7 p.m. beginning September 5 on WNAV (1430AM or 99.9FM in the City). We're calling it Living Green in Annapolis. We hope you'll tune in or that you'll catch it later online. More about that in our next email blast. But do tune in to WNAV next Wednesday, August 15, at 2 p.m. when the WNAV Boat Show does a program on Green Boating featuring us!

So let's enjoy the rest of the summer... Not only do we have some fun Green Drinks/Annapolis Green gatherings for you to put on your calendar, but also several other terrific events to suggest.

annapolis green logo
Friday, August 24 - Come out to the Ball Game! It's Annapolis Green night at the Bowie Baysox, in partnership with the Chesapeake Bay Trust. "A hot dog at the ballgame beats roast beef at the Ritz," Humphrey Bogart once said. What would summer be without baseball? And the minor league, hometown team games are the most fun of all. The game, against the Harrisburg Senators, starts at 7:05 p.m., just up Route 50 at Prince Georges Stadium. If you use the Promo Code GREEN when you buy your tickets online, CBT will make a $5 donation to Annapolis Green! Click here to buy your Tix to the Sox! And if a fun night at the ballpark isn't enough... the Sox are kicking off their commemoration of the bicentennial of the War of 1812 with war re-enactors, and a "Flames and Fireworks" show! Wear green! We'll see you there.

Tuesday, August 28 - Green Drinks!
Let's fill up the new WEST Kitchen and Tavern at the Loews Annapolis Hotel. WEST opened last week and we've already eaten there. We can tell you the food is outstanding and the décor is trendy, open and facing West Street. We've met Chef Kevin Reif, and we know he's going to put out a terrific "best of west kitchen & tavernthe Chesapeake" assortment of appetizers. As always, Green Drinks runs from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. and there will be a cash bar. We won't have a specific theme this time other than supporting our good friends and partners at the Loews -- steeped in sustainability -- and a Green send off to summer. WEST features a hearth oven, fresh herb garden, plentiful raw bar, expo kitchen and Chef's table for group dining experiences. Read more. We'll have more information as the date nears, but put it on your calendar now. Save the date!

annapolis green logoWednesday, September 19 is Green Drinks' "Green Garage Party!" We will leave details to your imagination right now.  Suffice it to say there is quite an exciting initiative underway right in our hometown garages. Our event, hosted by Towne Park, will be all about Greening the City's garages and about alternative transportation. Save the date!

annapolis green logo Tuesday, October 9 - Green Drinks at the Maryland Green Designer Show Home at the Preserve at Severn Run in Gambrills, built by Baldwin Homes. Yes, right in between the two boat shows we're heading to land to learn about sustainable building practices and standards. We're partnering also with the Maryland Residential Green Building Council and Catherine Purple Cherry ArchitectsSave the date!

Cheers,

Elvia & Lynne

Sandy Bottom

the only reason to get off your bottom

annapolis green logoSandy Bottom is a refreshing pre-mixed cocktail that was created by a local Annapolitan, Sandy Mazza, while boating on the Chesapeake Bay. Imagine that... boating and having cocktails with friends once the anchor is down... and they loved it! Sandy turned this cocktail concept into a bottled product and now can be enjoyed by many. Sandy Bottom is carbonated coconut rum with natural lemonade and lime flavors that has a refreshing sweet-tart composition. It is made in America and sold locally at Bay Ridge Wine and Spirits, Rite Aid, Eastport Liquors, Scott Brothers, Fishpaws, and McGarvey's. More locations will come as Sandy Bottom grows. In addition to Sandy Bottom's creator being local, the aluminum "bottle can" is 100% recyclable making it very green. Look for regular samplings in our community and at one of the Green Drinks events this summer.
Like Sandy Bottom on Facebook to see the schedule of local tastings.

annapolis green logoA local fixture for over 38 years, K&B True Value has environmental stewardship at the core of its business philosophy. From gardening solutions to cleaning products, K&B True Value offers a wide and ever-expanding range of environmentally friendly products. In fact, K&B True Value carries annapolis green logoMythic Paint, a zero-toxin paint that does not exude the VOCs and harmful toxins that many other paints release. And their refillable laundry detergent station is even more environmentally friendly than recycling!

annapolis green logo K&B True Value's management is particularly proud to announce that earlier this year they installed 72 solar modules on the rooftop of their Forest Drive location to offset the electricity they draw from the grid. At a cost of $65,000, including various grants, these panels provide the business with 15% of its electric needs, with a certain amount being sold back to electric providers. K&B True Value believes that the business community has a responsibility to preserve the environment in which it operates, and it takes that charge very seriously! Visit the K&B website.
