Want to join in and make your mark on sustainability in the Annapolis area?

Over the past six years we've provided an on-line and in-person way t
o distribute local environmental information, make friends and alliances, and exchange views. Your support of our programs tells us that you believe we are providing a valuable service. Changing our status to non-profit allows us to take on projects funded by grants and tax-deductible donations. But in this "formative period," we need your financial support to get established.

Want to be one of the first to be a part of Annapolis Green? Then consider becoming one of our Founding One Hundred. Join the list below.

This exclusive group is made up of the first 100 people to donate $1000 to Annapolis Green. These 100 individuals will be permanently listed on our website, letterhead and other materials.

If you support our work and $1000 is not in the budget, please  consider making a smaller contribution. Contributions $250 and over are eligible for tax exemption through the Annapolis Community Foundation. (The Annapolis Community Foundation is already acting as our fiscal sponsor so that we can accept tax-deductible donations even while our 501(c)(3) filing is underway.) The Foundation cannot accept donations under $250 but we certainly welcome your direct support any level! Please read more. Thank you!

Celebrating the Great "Green" Outdoors

Rain or Shine!
during National Great Outdoors Month
Be Out There™
Partnering with the National Wildlife Federation

Showers, no problem ... we'll still be "outdoors" and comfortable under the covered sidewalk at Clock Tower Plaza. Please join us to celebrate National Great Outdoors Month, and think about all the wonderful ways we can get outside in our area -- on land and on the water. We firmly believe that we are only moved to care for the environment if it is familiar to us... so get outside! Start by attending Green Drinks.

Our event hosts are:

*    My Butcher and More

*    Grapes Wine Bar & Wine Cellars of Annapolis

*    Wild Bird Center of Annapolis

*    Tastings Gourmet Market

*    Sweet Hearts Patisserie

Read more about our hosts, our appetizers and drinks on our website -- everyone participating will be treating us from one end of the patio to the other, including Roasted Dry Aged Roseda Beef Steamship on slider rolls from My Butcher and More (Why not go home with some pasture-fed meat for the grill?), and French marcarons for dessert from Sweet Hearts, who also will be offering coffee from our very own Green Drinks official coffee partner, Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company! Grapes Wine Bar invites you to stay for dinner and will offer a free early summer salad, sourced from a local farm, to Green Drinkers who order a small plate special. The Wild Bird Center will offer coupons for savings on bird feeders and dining and entertaining gift items that are perfect for a nature-inspired outdoor cocktail party! Plus, they all will be staying open inviting us into their stores.

National Wildlife Federation

As America's largest conservation organization, National Wildlife Federation (NWF) works nationally to inspire Americans to protect wildlife for our children's future. We are fortunate that NWF's Chesapeake Mid-Atlantic Regional Center is right here in Annapolis. The regional office works  with affiliates and partners across the region to restore and protect the Chesapeake Bay; the Appalachian forests, rivers and flyways; and the extensive shoreline and coastal bay habitats of the Mid-Atlantic.

At Green Drinks you'll learn about the City of Annapolis' campaign to become a Certified Community Wildlife Habitat, a program of the National Wildlife Federation. You'll also learn about NWF's Great American Backyard Campout, a one-day activity inviting families across America to come together on June 23 and camp in their backyards, local parks and campgrounds to discover a whole other world that lives right in their "backyard."

These are just two of the many activities the NWF's Chesapeake Mid-Atlantic Regional Center is undertaking toward its mission of inspiring Americans to protect wildlife and wild places for our children's future. In addition, take in the information of our exhibitors - enjoy and learn!

Here's our challenge: Keep the alcohol in the roped off area ... we must be good green Drinking guests and not jeopardize Grapes' liquor license.

There is plenty of parking but why not carpool, or ride green. If you have a company name badge, please wear it and if you'd  like to volunteer to help (we can't do this without volunteers),  please contact Lynne.

See you tomorrow!

Cheers,

Elvia & Lynne

PS - See our calendar highlights list at left and check out the full list on our website. This Saturday you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Run or walk in the Chesapeake Bay Trust's 1st Annual 5K for the Bay at Quiet Waters Park.
  • Tour several types of rain gardens at the Chesapeake Ecology Center and to get your hands dirty helping to maintain them.
  • Enjoy the Bay for good cause by attending Bands in the Sand, the 7th annual fun fundraiser for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, sponsored by the Boatyard Bar & Grill. Yes, the bands really will be right on the sand at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's beach.
Bring us your corks!

And look for our eco-stations. They are becoming Greening fixtures around town!

Sandy Bottom

the only reason to get off your bottom

annapolis green logo
Sandy Bottom is a refreshing pre-mixed cocktail that was created by a local Annapolitan, Sandy Mazza, while boating on the Chesapeake Bay. Imagine that... boating and having cocktails with friends once the anchor is down... and they loved it! Sandy turned this cocktail concept into a bottled product and now can be enjoyed by many. Sandy Bottom is carbonated coconut rum with natural lemonade and lime flavors that has a refreshing sweet-tart composition. It is made in America and sold locally at Bay Ridge Wine and Spirits, Rite Aid, Eastport Liquors, Scott Brothers, Fishpaws, and McGarvey's. More locations will come as Sandy Bottom grows. In addition to Sandy Bottom's creator being local, the aluminum "bottle can" is 100% recyclable making it very green. Look for regular samplings in our community and at one of the Green Drinks events this summer.
Like Sandy Bottom on Facebook to see the schedule of local tastings.
