Over the past five years we've provided an on-line and in-person way t
o distribute local environmental information, make friends and alliances, and exchange views. Your support of our programs tells us that you believe we are providing a valuable service. Changing our status to non-profit allows us to take on projects funded by grants and tax-deductible donations. But in this "formative period," we need your financial support to get established.

- At our suggestion the Carroll House had an energy audit conducted by one of our Founding One Hundred Sponsors, Infrared Tools Energy Services. The audit is almost complete so soon we will let you know what they found and more importantly, what steps can be taken to keep fine buildings like this authentic while saving money and doing good for the environment too.

Celebrating the Great "Green" Outdoors

during National Great Outdoors Month
Be Out There™
Partnering with the National Wildlife Federation

June is National Great Outdoors Month, and we're encouraging you to connect with your environment by getting outdoors because we firmly believe that we are only moved to care for the environment if it is familiar to us... so get outside! Start by attending Green Drinks.

Our event will be held outdoors, along the covered sidewalk at Clock Tower Place on Forest Drive. Our event hosts are:

*    My Butcher and More

*    Grapes Wine Bar & Wine Cellars of Annapolis

*    Wild Bird Center of Annapolis

*    Tastings Gourmet Market

*    Sweet Hearts Patisserie

Read more about our hosts, our appetizers and drinks on our website.

National Wildlife Federation

As America's largest conservation organization, National Wildlife Federation (NWF) works with more than 4 million members, partners and supporters in communities across the country to inspire Americans to protect wildlife for our children's future. We are fortunate that NWF's Chesapeake Mid-Atlantic Regional Center is right here in Annapolis. The regional office works with affiliates and partners across the region to restore and protect the Chesapeake Bay; the Appalachian forests, rivers and flyways; and the extensive shoreline and coastal bay habitats of the Mid-Atlantic.

At Green Drinks you'll learn about how you can help the City of Annapolis become a Certified Community Wildlife Habitat, a program of the National Wildlife Federation.You'll also learn about NWF's Great American Backyard Campout, a one-day activity inviting families across America to come together on June 23 and camp in their backyards, local parks and campgrounds to discover a whole other world that lives right in their "backyard."

These are just two of the many activities the NWF's Chesapeake Mid-Atlantic Regional Center is undertaking toward its mission of inspiring Americans to protect wildlife and wild places for our children's future.

Annapolis Green

As we've been telling you, all our momentum with Green Drinks is being captured and harnessed to do so much more as Annapolis Green, the non-profit. And not to worry... Green Drinks will stay just the same!

We've launched our Founding One Hundred program that is helping us get off the ground as a non-profit. (See the column at left.) We're delighted to welcome two more Founders to the list: the Cohen Community Fund and Towne Park! Thank you!

The donation of $1000 may be too steep for some, particularly in these economic times. If that's the case for you but you still want to help Annapolis Green with a smaller donation, we would be most appreciative! Donations $250 and up can be sent to the Annapolis Community Foundation (noting that it is for Annapolis Green) to PO Box 5736, Annapolis MD 21403. That will ensure that the donation is tax deductible. Under $250, please send to Annapolis Green at PO Box 3423, Annapolis MD 21403. We cannot provide a tax deductible receipt for amounts under $250 at this time. Thank you so much for your consideration.

See you next week!

Cheers,

Elvia & Lynne

Sandy Bottom

the only reason to get off your bottom

annapolis green logo
Sandy Bottom is a refreshing pre-mixed cocktail that was created by a local Annapolitan, Sandy Mazza, while boating on the Chesapeake Bay. Imagine that... boating and having cocktails with friends once the anchor is down... and they loved it! Sandy turned this cocktail concept into a bottled product and now can be enjoyed by many. Sandy Bottom is carbonated coconut rum with natural lemonade and lime flavors that has a refreshing sweet-tart composition. It is made in America and sold locally at Bay Ridge Wine and Spirits, Rite Aid, Eastport Liquors, Scott Brothers, Fishpaws, and McGarvey's. More locations will come as Sandy Bottom grows. In addition to Sandy Bottom's creator being local, the aluminum "bottle can" is 100% recyclable making it very green. Look for regular samplings in our community and at one of the Green Drinks events this summer.
Like Sandy Bottom on Facebook to see the schedule of local tastings.
