Top of the Line
This is the time of year when everything gets going ... gardening ... boating ... you name it. We are so glad so many of you joined us last Wednesday at Homestead Gardens for Green Drinks... celebrating how everything is getting green. Homestead welcomed us to its Spring Open House, and it was full of beautiful flowers. Thank you to Tim Hamilton, CEO Brian Riddle and staff for making our event a great success and for the 20% off coupons which are good through next week! It pays to be a Green Drinker with wonderful partners like Homestead.
As Green Drinkers arrived we were greeted by the Anne Arundel County Watershed Stewards Academy, whose staff Suzanne Etgen and Lara Mulvaney asked "which watershed do you live in?" Many people didn't know! Suzanne and Lara had a map of the area and put a pin on each person's property to show where the water from that location drains. It was an eye-opener for many.
There were many watershed stewards at Green Drinks, some in the distinctive yellow shirts. Remember that these folks are your resource people for stormwater issues. The Watershed Stewards Academy trains and supports community leaders to serve as Master Watershed Stewards in the protection, restoration and conservation of our watersheds, working to reduce the negative impacts of stormwater runoff in Anne Arundel County.
If you don't know what watershed you live in, or even if you do, you can find out who your nearest watershed steward is and how to contact him or her by clicking here.
The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay had a table at Green Drinks to present info about the upcoming Project Clean Stream. There was special emphasis on the cleanup with the Severn River Association, of Luce and Clements Creeks in the Severn River this
Saturday, March 31. The Spa Creek Conservancy is planning to do a clean up in Spa Creek too, on April 14 -- the date when there will be many stream clean efforts throughout our area. For info about a clean-up near you click here. More details on these events are on our calendar. We'd also like to thank our volunteers, without whom these events can't happen: Dave at the bar, Leslie at the ticket table, Christine, Sandy and Trish at the registration table.
We will look for your on Thursday, April 12 at our next Green Drinks, this time at Pusser's Caribbean Grille in the Marriott Waterfront Hotel. More details to come on this event featuring the Rozalia Project. Curious? Click on the link.
Now please have a look at our event calendar, because there are so many wonderful things coming up -- from clean water and wind energy rallies to classes, nature walks, reef ball buidling (for oysters), and more. There really is something for everybody -- from kids to adults -- inside and outside. So get moving! Connect with nature in the way that is best for you and your family.
