Bring us your Corks for Recycling!
Natural corks don't belong in a landfill. After they've done their job sealing in wine or champagne, they can have another life as part of shoes, flooring, and more. So although cork is a sustainable resource because the trees regrow the bark that is harvested -- why waste it?
Annapolis Green has partnered with recork.org to collect corks and send them to Recork for recycling. So bring them to our Green Drinks events from here forward and we'll make sure they get a second life! This applies to natural cork only -- not the plastic ones!

Top of the Line
What an incredible evening! The 18th Annual Maryland Environmental Legislative Summit was nothing if not hopeful and optimistic for the passage of good environmental laws that will put us well on the way of improving the health of the Chesapeake Bay and our state's environment in general. Several hundred environmentalists attended the summit sponsored by the Citizens Campaign for the Environment -- and many of them "continued the conversation" at Green Drinks. Some walked and some rode the all-electric eCruisers, headquartered and serving the Loews Annapolis.
Several legislators, including Speaker of the House Mike Busch, Senate President Mike Miller and Environmental Matters Committee Chair Maggie McIntosh spoke about upcoming legislation. Miller said that the environment is under attack but added, "In 2012 the business of the State of Maryland is going to be the environment." T he summit concluded a bit early and many attendees headed over to the Loews Annapolis Hotel for Green Drinks. They were greeted by the jazz of the Rob Levit Trio. The Loews provided a generous buffet of locally sourced comfort food, perfect for the evening. We were hosted in the Powerhouse as the hotel is under going an exciting renovation. Our event was sponsored by the Chesapeake Legal Alliance. |
The Alliance is a not-for-profit network of lawyers who contribute their time and professional skills to representing environmental organizations, citizens' associations, and individuals in efforts to improve the health of the Chesapeake and its tributaries.

We've been urging you to follow the work of General Assembly in its 90-day session that began last week. Attending the Summit was a great way to begin doing just that. We will post the legislative priorities documents presented by the environmental community on our website to make it easier to understand the issues and follow the action. Remain up to date by signing up for the League of Conservation Voters' email list. The LCV will send you a weekly email with a "Hot List" of info of the bills making their way through the General Assembly.
Stay informed. As Speaker Busch said, to pass needed environmental legislation, "We need your help. It has to be you contacting your legislators." It's up to us to bring about environmental improvements. Stay tuned!
Cheers,
Elvia & Lynne
