Landmarks Great Deals announces a local fundraising opportunity

it's a First - with Annapolis Green!

Annapolis Green and Landmarks Great Deals (LGD) announce a partnership to keep the holiday momentum of Shopping Local going through the cold days of January and February. Annapolis Green gets a donation when our followers and friends purchase great deals using the Annapolis Green promo code.
Here's how it works:
Annapolis Green supporters go to LGD's website, landmarksgreatdeals.com, to see Today's Deal. If it appeals to you, click on Buy Now or Buy it for a Friend. That will take you to the purchase page. The deals can be anything from discounts at restaurants, hair salons, retail stores and more.

Here's the important part: In the Donation Code box, type in 1dd2da. That will attach your purchase to us and Annapolis Green will receive a donation from Landmarks!
Landmarks Great Deals' goal is to compete with the big discounters such as Groupon to keep our shopping dollars local, right here in our area. This benefits our economy and every one of us. Since LGD is a 23-year old local company with some real roots in this market (and the other guys aren't), they have great relationships with in the community and continually come up with the best offers of any of the current deal sites.

Top of the Line

We're excited to be begin the new year as the official "after reception" of the 18th Annual Maryland Environmental Legislative Summit next Tuesday, January 24!

Join us first at the Summit to learn about the environmental issues topping this year's session and then encourage fellow attendees and legislators to "Continue the Conversation" at Green Drinks, sponsored this month by the Chesapeake Legal Alliance.

Our generous host for Green Drinks is the Loews Annapolis Hotel. The Loews is just a short walk -- or an eCruiser ride -- away from the Miller Senate Office Building, where the Summit will be held. Thank you to eCruisers for providing us with free Green electric shuttle rides. Don't forget to tip your driver.

We've been urging you to follow the work of General Assembly in its 90-day session that began last week. One way to start doing that, from an environmental perspective, is to attend the Summit. The Summit gives environmental advocates and legislators a chance to present their environmental priorities for the session. Then follow it up with conversation at Green Drinks! Here are the details:

 Tuesday, January 24

Maryland Environmental
Legislative Summit

5-6:30 p.m.

Green Drinks, generously sponsored by the Chesapeake Legal Alliance, will not only feature delicious appetizers courtesy of our hosts, Loews Annapolis Hotel, but also the wonderful music of the Rob Levit Trio! Cash bar, as always.

The Alliance is a not-for-profit network of lawyers who contribute their time and professional skills to representing environmental organizations, citizens' associations, and individuals in efforts to improve the health of the Chesapeake and its tributaries.

So plan to attend both the Summit and Green Drinks! As always, there's no RSVP for Green Drinks. To RSVP for the Summit, just click here to reach the Maryland League of Conservation Voters' website.

Get informed, mingle with environmental advocates, legislators and interested citizens! See you at the Summit and at Green Drinks!

Cheers,

2nd Annapolis Green Film Fest
Saturday, Feb. 11
5-8 p.m.
Key Auditorium, St. John's College

free admission - $10 donation requested

It's the dark of winter, the Super Bowl will be a memory -- why not enjoy a cozy evening of learning and entertainment about our environment?

Several films will be screened, with the feature film being Energy on Trial, a film by Gary Jobson. Yes, it's a film by local sailing superstar Gary Jobson and it's not about sailing. Here's what it's about:

Without energy, we are doomed. But the way much of it is produced is terminally damaging to our environment, and to our health. In a refreshingly objective, straightforward manner, this film addresses what has become a complex, global conundrum, a political hot potato. Energy on Trial presents the energy source groups one by one, evaluating each on the basis of cost, efficiency, environmental impact, and future potential.

A brief panel discussion about the issues in the films will follow the screenings. The audience will then be welcome to attend a reception in the auditorium lobby, chat with some renewable energy providers, and finish off the evening by having dinner at one of the local restaurants that features sustainable menu offerings!

More information about short subject films to be screened with Energy on Trial will be available soon. Save the date!

Bring us your Corks for Recycling!

annapolis green logoNatural corks don't belong in a landfill. After they've done their job sealing in wine or champagne, they can have another life as part of shoes, flooring, and more. So although cork is a sustainable resource because the trees regrow the bark that is harvested -- why waste it?

annapolis green logo
Annapolis Green has partnered with recork.org to collect corks and send them to Recork for recycling. So bring them to our Green Drinks events from here forward and we'll make sure they get a second life!

This applies to natural cork only -- not the plastic ones!
